So let me get this straight. dht specifically the result of the 5 ar type 1 enzyme is responsible for excess sebum. Sebum though doesnt damage hair? Im pretty sure excess sebum is my problem but I dont know how to get rid of it. Would propecia help in any way by changing dht levels to change the how much sebum the hair makes? I dont want to remove 5 ar type 1 because I personally think the excess sebum is in my skin too but that it might be good for skin by keeping it moist or whatever. I dont think its a good idea to remove it but no science to really prove that.

Pure Jojoba oil as a lotion can be usseful to control sebum production and eliminate hardened sebum.

Propecia have a little effecti sebaceous gland.

Childs have a good skin and they have no sebum production.
Bryan is an expert in this aspect.
My opinion is that children have sebum production in scalp hair follicle even before puberty, then I can conclude that sebum would be vital for a healthy hair.

Hi Tony;

Jojoba oil (wax liquid) as a lotion before go to bed, and the use of a good shampoo next morning, 2 or 3 times a week, can be very useful to treat your case. Better if jojoba oil contain some certains essential oils. Oropelum can be a solution.

Best regards

yes but isnt putting oil or lotion on your scalp bad and clogs the pores leading to more hairloss and zits?

I know your caution but Jojoba oil is not an oil but a liquid wax. There is not problem in this issue.

I don’t know very much about taurine but here is some information about its properties

L-taurine
-Anti-oxidant, effective in improving the physico-chemical properties of skin and therefore in maintenance of more youthful characteristics of skin
-Anti-Fibrosis
Regulation of transforming growth factor-beta1 mRNA expression by taurine and niacin in the bleomycin hamster model of lung fibrosis.

You are right, a lot of words but nothing clear.

In a nutshell, taurine acts as an antioxidant and as an antifibrotic agent.

Sorry

This study can be useful

090 The effect of taurine and its derivatives on the hair follicle cell

T. Magara, C. Hamada, T. Takahashi, A. Ishino and M. Tajima Shiseido Basic Research Center, Yokohama, Japan.

Taurine is the most abundant sulfur amino acid in mammals, and may have important functions in several tissues and organ. It was demonstrated in the adult mice that a high density of taurine was found external root sheaths just below the insertion of the sebaceous glands by radioautography (1). However, no report has been known about the function of taurine on hair follicle. We investigate whether taurine and its derivatives have an effect on the proliferation of the outer root sheath cells (ORS) and dermal papilla cells (DP). The cell line of human ORS and DP was established by infection of a recombinant adenovirus vector containing T antigen. The ORS was cultured in the serum free medium on Type I collagen coated dish with taurine, N-methyltaurine and beta-alanine. Addition of taurine, N-methyltaurine and beta-alanine show the significant increase on the proliferation of ORS, but not on that of DP. These results suggest that distribution of taurine around hair follicle may affect the cell growth. The proliferation by taurine and beta-alanine indicate the mechanism on that glycine receptor is activated and that then the proliferation of epithelial cells may be due to the opening of the ion channel. Hi Tony;

In my opinion it is sufficient use Jojoba at night 2 or 3 times a week.

Look for a good natural Jojoba, 100% pure, first cold press with intense gold colour. There is some in the market, including http://www.disnatural.com.

There is not possibility to get zits with Jojoba oil.

I wonder why it's technically a wax. It feels nothing close to a wax...it feels more oily than waxy. Jojoba oil does get rid of sebum, but it will not save your hair if you have male pattern baldness. I only use it to moisturize my hair after showering, and help keep my hair/scalp healthy.

have a little of the same problem. in my case, it is located only at a particular area of my hairline. in this area(a little to the right, just above my right eye) the hairs seem to grow in different directions. it doesn't seem thinner(as in more hairloss) or diffuse, just "wilder". hairs growing in all kinds of directions. the hairs seem thick and strong as well. hopefully nizoral can take care of it.

if you have a drying sebum from shampooing it can help make the strands strong. Some people lose hair because when they shampoo the hair becomes brittle and dry many times.
