Does anyone here work shifts? What are your patterns? Do you work morning/evening or nights? Could you work nights?

Do you think working in shifts would/does f*** your body up?

I just started a new job working in a warehouse.

It sucks ***. I work 6-2 one week and 2-10 the week after. It's only temp to save money to go live in America. But its so bad its depressing me, the shifts are horrendous. I wouldn't reccommend them

I have a very strange work pattern. Because I work from home, I'm free to choose my own working hours and I end up staying up all night most of the time.

I get up around lunch time, have a meal, coffee, etc and then work for a bit. I meet a friend in my local pub for a soft drink most afternoons, and I always watch the news and have a meal around 7pm. Then I'll be in front of the computer till 6am.

When I get bored of staying up all night, I don't sleep one day and I go to bed early evening and get up early morning the next day. I keep the early evenings and early mornings pattern for 10 days or so, and then my sleep cycle naturally drifts towards night time again :innocent:

Basically, for about 10 days a month I get up very early and for 20 days I'm up till 6am...

To answer your question. It doesn't f*ck my body up, because I don't have to get up at certain time, my sleep cycle shifts on its own. If I had to force certain sleeping hours on my body, then it might have been a different story.

Thats the rotational shift pattern that I work, it does'nt really bother me because I'm single and can sleep whenever I want. Infact I like it because I only have to get up early 1 week out of 4.
But if I was in the position of some of my co-workers (married with kids) it would be a real problem.

Yeah, I agree.... I'm kinda looking forward to the day I settle into a more stable routine. Get up at 7am, come home at 5pm and have the rest of the day for myself or the family, etc... I miss having that off time where I can just switch off and do my own thing.

It ain't gonna happen for the next few years, I have too many things planned for the near future :sobbing:

I am considering applying for a job that follows a pattern like...

2 Mornings, 2 Evenings, 2 Nights, 4 Days off.

6am-2pm (Mornings)
2pm-10pm (Evenings)
10pm-6am (Nights)

Tough schedule?
