I have noticed my hair starting to go at my temples and hair on my pillow ect. I bought some Biotin, fish oils, zinc and iron as reading around they seem to be beneficial to hair health.

I also bought a bottle of Saw palmetto capsules, took them for 2 days then read something on hear about it causing in some cases permanent damage to sexual function so I stopped.

My question is are these safe to use or worth using? does my age play a factor? anyone been using them?

Thanks in advance!

You'll be back in a year with more advanved hair loss asking if you should take finasteride / dutasteride.

It is far less researched than drugs such as finasteride but current research indicates that it works at blocking DHT somewhere about half way as good as finasteride. It works in a different way but it's likely that any internal DHT blocker could have similar sides to finasteride.

A later study assessing usage of 320mg saw palmetto over the course of two years in otherwise healthy men with male pattern baldness noted that 38% of subjects treated with saw palmetto reported an increase in hair growth which performed less effectively than 1mg finasteride (66%); saw palmetto appeared to work primarily at the crown of the head whereas finasteride was effective at the crown and frontal regions.

Thus it seems likely that it's possible but because it only works about half as well as finasteride it's likely that the chances of getting sides are less. And the chances of permanent sides from finasteride are already very unlikely.

If your are balding already at 20 saw p is almost certanly not going to hold up your hairloss. The decision to make is basically for all of us the same: finasteride/dutasteride vs balding acceptance
