Long time reader, and first time poster.
Im 21 years old and i'm losing ground really fast. I believe Telogen Effluvium could have triggered my male pattern baldness. I'm not 100 % sure
I was very stressed for a few months and things were bad and I started losing hair a while after that. A year later and my hair is now worse than ever.
I shed like crazy and my scalp itches alot. I have alot of white dandruff and flakes in my scalp which were also never there before.

Would finasteride and nizoral be a good idea for a 21 year old?

I think stress had something to do with my hair loss as well.

My current regimen is along the lines of:

Finasteride 0.25mg EOD/ED
Ketoconazole 2% shampoo or similar (3 times a week)
Curcumin
Resveratrol
Really good multivitamin w/ Omega 3 (still deciding)
Good anti-inflammatory (still deciding)
Mitochondrial energy enhancer (still deciding)

Good diet, avoiding excessive sexual activity.

and I'm fairly pleased with that for now! It should offset the effects of stress and possible thyroid problems on my hair, and give me some space to sort it out!

Oh, I'm also going to give schisandra and maybe kava kava tea a go for stress, and ensure that my multivit has plenty of magnesium, vitamin C and omega 3, as they are great for coping with stress as well.

I'm not sure what Telogen Effluvium is though? o_O

Thanks for the fast reply man. 0.25 mg of finasteride huh? Would you say its doing alot of good?
Alrite this is my only concern before getting on finasteride. I'm pretty sure my hormones are out of whack right now as it is. Im not 100% sure what I have is male pattern baldness. I've gotten my thyroids blood test and it came back fine. And I gave the shedding ALOT of time, but it just didnt stop.
Im worried finasteride messes up my hormones even more, and as a result i'll lose more hair. Is that possible? Or am I just being paranoid?
I was thinking a low dose 0.5 mg of finasteride btw.
Telogen Effluvium = telegon effluvium btw
Once again, thanks for the reply :)

it's cool man, erm, well the thing is, finasteride only really affects DHT levels, I mean technically coz it's acting upon 5-alpha reductase it might effect other stuff too but like, that's one of the reason I keep it at a nice low dose.

The thyroid thing erm, it's complicated. I mean my TSH was 3.5, which is apparently within the accepted range here in the UK, but is still pretty high, so I'm looking into that. Apparently thyroid imbalances (whether a problem with the actual thyoid itself or increased resistance to thyroid hormones) causes an increase in inflammation through messing up mitochondrial activity, hence my desire to find something to help mitochondria.

By the way this stuff is like massively alternative for this forum lol, most people on here just talk about the "big 3", which are finasteride, ketoconazole (Nizoral, or similar) and minoxidil.

I do agree with them that they are pretty potent though, which is why I've included 2 out of the 3 in my regimen.

So what does your hairline and crown currently look like?

And yeah I see what Telogen Effluvium is. I'm afraid my knowledge of it is limited (i knew of it but not by name), but my first guess in this case would be neurogenic inflammation, which apparently curcumin and resveratrol help significantly with.

It's too early for me to really say if finasteride is helping me, I am new to this in terms of time with hair loss. Nizoral is working though I think :)

Makes sense. I'm going to try a 0.5 mg dose, hopefully it doesnt mess anything else up. Well my hairline i'd say hasnt receeding. Probably at a Norwood 1. My crown is def thinning, but I dont have a round bald spot yet. Hair all over the top of my head and the crown have thinned in general. I've buzzed my hair, and nobody really notices that i'm losing hair yet. I shed like crazy though.
Also i've noticed that my scalp itches more / i get more dandruff when my hair is short. Is that common, or just a coincidence?
nizoral and finasteride i'm DEFF going to take.
I dont want to risk the minoxidil sides. Yes I know that sounds ridiculous because im taking finasteride, except my dose on finasteride will be pretty low, and i'll cut it off if I notice some drastic side effect.
What else should I add?

Bear in mind man that a 0.5mg finasteride dose will probably be pretty much as potent as a full 1.0mg, just due to the way finasteride works. The reason I only take 0.25 and not even every day is because it will take the cap off my DHT without giving it a huge plummet!

It really is up to the individual though, I mean the potential sides are estrogen related such as gyno, and also stuff like (usually all temporary) decrease in semen quality, impotence, that kinda stuff, basically the kind of stuff you would expect to come from decreasing a core male hormone, but they are rare I am always told, even on the full dose.

Try out nizoral yeah, I will soon be switching to some kind of non-shampoo Keto solution, just to avoid the SLS, as apparently that can be bad for your scalp.

Of course you need to be sure what you have is male pattern baldness - are you sure it's being shed in the male pattern baldness pattern? (hairline, crown)

Dandruff and stuff is common with hair loss, I think it's the inflammation again. Oh, for some great additional info:

As I say I'm still learning myself, it's VERY complex!
