Spicing up minoxidil with GTE, Beta sitosterol and AA...

I have green tea extract, beta sitosterol and a good deal of azelaic acid. I figure I mose well spice up my minoxidil with the GTE, Beta Sis and AA into a cosmetically acceptable solution. Any objections aside from the fact AA probably does nothing for hair?

Really? I haven't heard of that complication before. Can you provide link or some more detail?

I have the Beyond a Century GTE. 98% Polyphenols, 50% EGCG, 50 g total. Caffeine is less than 1% (<2.5mg per 250mg). Is that still too high?

how good is GTE topically?
In theory is supposed to be a good topical, but who knows. If there is no problem adding the extract to minoxidil, why not I say? The extract disolves easily and isn't messy...

GTE is an EGFR inhibitor and a weak antiandrogen. It could also help as a stem cell proliferator.

I can't see how the caffeine in green tea would be a negative, especially in such a minuscule amount. Caffeine has been shown to grow hair on human skin in vitro and counteract effects of testosterone. Never heard of it interfering with minoxidil.

How EGF Effects Hair Growth
If you're looking for an antiaging skin care cream that will regrow skin, you’ll be interested to understand why excess EGF causes some hair loss.

The growth of new epithelial cells narrows the pore through which the hair grows. Over time the hair becomes thinner and thinner until it become vellus (peach fuzz) hair.

The follicle may be so smothered that it stops producing hair altogether. That’s how effective EGF is in producing new skin cells!

:dunno:

that which your body produces on its own, does have an inhibitory effect on hair growth in specific areas of the skin; namely the beard area of the face and neck, the hairline (where thinning hair is frequently first noticed) and under the arms. This type of hair loss has also been reported as a side effect when EGF is taken internally.

It has not yet been reported for topical skin care application.

well yes - though I read various folk not wanting to touch EFG because they suspect it my reduce hair follicle diameter...

Green Tea Extract inhibits the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor.

I'm not sure what else you're reading into this but it seems like you have the idea you'll be applying Epidermal Growth Factor to your head(?). You'll be inhibiting the receptor which will lower the amount of EGF affecting the hair follicles. This won't necessarily have hair follicles bursting out of your scalp, but it'll hopefully be of benefit in a complete regimen.

Speaking of which, that's a whole lot of stuff you're putting on your head every day. How bad is your hair loss?

Thanks for the detail.

Yes, it is eh? :woot: My hair loss is moderate, not overly aggressive. So far it is responding well with lots of short black hair popping up in the temples up to 1/2" below the hairline. Thats at about 1.5 months. So its too early to know how its going to be in a year, but hopefully good. My aim is to grow some hair for now while I'm in the 30 month 'window' and then dial back the topical attack a little to see what keeps everything happy.

hi,

sorry I don't have any link backing this whole caffeine thing. I remember it being discussed even on this boards. There was a theory that caffeine might minimize positive results of the minoxidil. Yes, caffeine has shown some good signs in treating hairloss but with conjunction with minoxidil some chemical sh*t might happen but I don't have a clue about it, sorry

try searching forums. I remember it was discussed in caffeine threads or Alpecin caffeine shampoo threads,

Also you might try grape seed extract. It was also shown to be mild antiandrogen and growth stimulant
