spironolactone and body hair?

So I'm sprouting hairs on my shoulders and back these days. To say the least, I'm unimpressed that I'm getting hair growth everywhere except my scalp. But I guess that's life, right?

Anywho, is there any chance that if I applied spironolactone on my shoulders it would prevent the hair from growing there? From what I remember, DHT reduces growth on your head but kickstarts it on other parts of your body. Therefore, if I applied a topical DHT inhibitor (spironolactone) on my shoulders, shouldn't that prevent growth in that particular area?

And here's a related question for all the other hairy apes out there: what do you do with your body hair? Let it roam free? Shave it? Wax it? Burn it? I'm thinking about going somewhere and getting it waxed, but I'm skeptical. For those of you who've done this, how fast does it grow back? Does it grow back all stubbly like after you've shaved? I tried shaving it once, but that was a disaster. I got razor burn like none other! It was messy.

Any pointers would be appreciated. And thoughts about the spironolactone. Thanks.

I've been on topical spironolactone for about 3 months, maybe a little less. I've been using minoxidil as well for almost a year now. I lost some hair earlier when I briefly tried finasteride a few months ago. I'm not sure yet if what I'm seeing is results right now. Hoping to recover hair from finasteride.

As for back hair, I get those random dark hairs as well. I shave them off every now and then with my razor heads once the aloe strip has worn down and I can't use them on my face.

Yes spironolactone will reduce your body hair if you apply it directly on the skin however why not purchase some men's hair removal cream. I use Veet myself and its great. Just put the cream on your legs or where ever then wash it off.

I think that cream is lye. It eats the hair off. But if your hair is really course, it takes longer to eat it off, and you skin burns before the hair comes off. I tried Nair and Epilstop plus. Both bad for me.

spironolactone will not stop body hair, but it will reduced it pretty good. Some guys get hairier on their body with age. But maybe you are absorbing too much minoxidil. More is better for your scalp, but can put hair on your body. That is why I use 2.5% minoxidil and rely more on apple poly for stimulation.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply. As far as Veet goes, I actually tried the stuff and it really irritated my skin, so that's off the list. I'm not using minoxidil anymore either, so it looks like I'm naturally a hairy beast!

Man, there's nothing like seeing a forest of shoulder hair while my hair thins away on top....

Anyone else have any suggestions? Has anyone gone for the gold and tried waxing? I'm embarrassed to say it, but I'm really starting to consider it....

I tried electrolysis, and it is very effective -- but it is slow, and painful in places if you don't apply painkilling creams in advance of treatment.

If you have fair skin and dark hair, laser hair removal can also be effective.

Can minoxidil really make a noticeble difference on the amount of body hair?
Im slowing getting more hair on my chest, i thought it would be because im aging, not so sure anymore.

Although I'm no scientist or doctor, I think you'd REALLY have to be dousing yourself in Minoxidil for it to be significantly causing an increase in body hair. I'd say it's much more likely it would cause bushier eyebrows or new hair high up on the cheekbones, because of dripping down and the proximity to your scalp.

But once again, I'm no doctor or scientist, just throwing out my opinion. Especially if you're in your 20's, there's a good chance you're growing more chest hair just because that's what happens as you get older....

Same here jimmyjames, hair started showing up on my shoulders about an year ago, same time I noticed that I was loosing hair..
As for my body hair I bought an epilator  to remove my chest hair and ouch! it hurts quite a bit, but if you can stand waxing you can stand it too, just remember, after waxing your body try to do it again as soon as you can, first time I waxed didn't hurt too much but then I've let the hair grow for too long and the next time I tried to wax it hurted a lot more than before and my chest ended up full of red bumps and small whiteheads :freaked2: oh and when hair starts growing back be prepared to take care of the ingrowns.

BTW guys where can I get spironolactone to apply on my body? if it really reduces body hair that would be great..

Yeah im 20 and i apply minoxidil only once a day so..
HairyBerry, i dont know if there is some kind of side effect by applying spironolactone over the body, instead of the scalp only. I guess it could damage the skin at long term, but still it is worth to try.
I dont want to shave it all like you did, i just wish there was a way to get those hairs really thinner like they were a couple years ago.

dresden, what kind of damage are you talking about? I think it's worth a try but first I need to know the kind of side effects.. Is there anyone here currently applying it on the body skin?

Nope.. I trim my legs and arms with a regular hair trimmer but for my shoulders I'd prefer to reduce the hair instead of trimming.. I think I'll give spironolactone a try.
