So currently I am using 2% minoxidil for about 2 years and I am pretty sure that it maintained my hair to some level and even produced some baby hairs on my temples during this time. However, I see that most people here are using 5% one, so I was wondering would the switch to the stronger one be more benefitial for my hair and would I get better results from it. Also, would the switch mean that I would start shedding or not since it is the same minoxidil just the stronger type,

You might get better results, but definitely make the switch to 5% as it is a superior product.

1) Studies show 5% is better than 2%.
2) Yes, you will most likely have a shed.
