thin sides and back

Hi

I have been on proscar since 1999. I have done great on it. My hair had thickened up till about 2003 when I when through a huge Telogen Effluvium from stress. Never really recovered what I lost but I'm doing well for 40. Appear as a nw2 with no crown spot.. The strange thing is my hair on the sides and back is a little thinner than the top. My miniaturization study showed about 30 percent through-out the whole head. I was diagnosed with NOT having dupa or diffused alopecia areata by two top Doctor's. I was told I had a unusual pattern and should fair well. I have been having my hair clippered to a 2 on the sides and back for 15yrs. Same area that is a little thinner. I wonder if it could be from that or somekind of medical cause. Thyroid basics where ok and iron has always been ok. I do have high cholesterol and a fatty liver, slightly elevated alt. Anyone share this or have any ideas.

Did the thin sides and back start only after your Telogen Effluvium episode? Also, do you have any other scalp/hair conditions, possibly a different hair texture caused by a scalp condition?

Actually my sides and back where thick as hell like the rest of hair was. I have had some itching in the areas but have been using nizirol. I just wonder if it is something else. The really strange thing is the thinner areas(even on sides and back) are where I have been having my hair clippered for 15years. The hair almost has the appearence of being matted down like when you just wake up.
The sides and back are thinner and don't grow in as full or fast as the top. Although, the top does have about 30% miniaturized and the sides and back might be about 35-40% miniaturized.

You say the sides and back look like they're matted down, but are they any coarser/different texture than the rest of your hair? If so, you could just have androgen-sensitivity in your sides/back and that would cause male pattern baldness there.

True hair thins as we age......

Mine has miniaturized to about 30% over the whole head. The sides just won't grow out thick as the top. I have my whole head clipped to a #6 and the top looks clearly thicker. I just wonder if clippering my sides for 20 years has thinned it out. I now just use a #6 and am gentle rather than a #2.
