there has been debate on here about the half life of spironolactone, and if it is too short. The fact is that the studies have been with 1 or 2x per day and done just great. So it is an effective treatment. The only reason to research the halflife is to find out if more frequent applications would increase the effectiveness. I prefer a mult-angled approach though.

I think I read on this forum that even though the half life of spironolactone is short, it's metabolite still has anti-androgenic properties which is why it's still effective if only used once per day.

CCS I have read through countless pages on this forum of posts going back to 2003 and cannot find any solid evidence of spironolactone really being a terrific add to someones regimin. Are you certain that spironolactone does anything for hairloss?? I am at month 3 now on it.

How about mixing spironolactone and Ru together? Or putting both in Revivogen?

spironolactone reduces flank organ growth 30-45%. It also reduces female facial hair about 40%. I don't know how that translates into male pattern baldness treatments. 5% spironolactone costs 2/3 as much as 2% RU. No you should not mix them together.

And how does RU compare to spironolactone? Is there a specific reason not to mix RU and spironolactone or are you just being cautious?

Just based on the results of hamster studies I've seen, the maximum effectiveness of spironolactone appears to be about half the maximum effectiveness of RU58841.

RU is very affordable. Figure $400 for the supplies, RU, shipping, etc, for 10g. Make 2%, 1.5mL, once a day, and that is 30mg per day.
10/0.03 = 333 days. That is 11 months. So Under $40 per month. I sold most of mine to my brother, but I still have a 4 month supply.

I've not been using it long enough to say, and i'm using too many topicals to know the effects of each. I'm giving away the rest of mine to my brother so he can test it a full 8 months instead of just 4, and I'll stick with cheaper topicals.

KielMck, if you are buying spironolactone powder, you can afford RU. It is $400 for an 11 month supply. You can't be as liberal as you can be with the spironolactone, but you said price was not a concern to you. Like bryan said, it is probably twice as strong as spironolactone. I think we know more about spironolactone absorption though.

Who is to say spironolactone is worth using. There is no reliable source I cant go to my local pharmacy or doctor and get topical spironolactone for hairloss. Who is to say that is a safe treatment or effective? Not to mention if its from india somewhere whos to say its even its real? theres no oversight or approval of any kind it could be cream or powder of any kind.
I would use it if it was proven any safer then finasteride.

Have you read the Italian study of topical spironolactone for male pattern baldness?

Hi i´m using my selfmade 2% spironolactone in conjunction whith tricomin for 2,5 month now.
I have developed a good test to count my hairs (once a month).
My haircount has decreased at 25%.SO not bad at all for such a short time...
these days I´ve added Keto-Foam(from Italy) and my home made Flut 1% solution.
Let´s see if that will help.
I´ll keep you posted.
Greetings from germany
