Treatments Questions And Soon Getting A Haircut, 17 Years Old And Need Advice

Hello all. I'm 17 years old, and recently came out of denial and now looking into treatments. I'm not really big on risking permanent sides from finansteride, especially since im so young, and from what I've heard it's the only thing that will keep your hair from balding for a longer time. Ever since I started balding last december I've grown out my hair and now thinking about cutting it next week, never cut it because I was scared of what I might see, since I've hidden the balding under just longer hair since it started.

you guys told me that i had a slight receding hairline and maybe diffuse thinning.
Reading around a bit I've heard of a few treatment options and I need your advice for it!

Nizoral schampoo - I'm very interested in this since I'm not big on strong treatments (because im young and need the dong in working order) and I'd like to keep hair for a shorter period of time ( about a year or two) until I've decided what to do

Oral minoxidil - need better understanding of this and saw someone that regrew from this only after quitting finansteride because of sides.

Just minoxidil, foam I guess. - not sure, heard it's recommended only with other treatments (something about big 5)

Lastly Finansteride - not sure about the risk factor HOWEVER, if it can keep the hair I have alone for a longer period of time (6+ years) im very interested. What are the chances of this?

Finasteride is the one you start with. Been on It 5 years and maintained and don't need to do anything else. Then you can add minoxidil foam if you want. minoxidil foam without finasteride is useless since the underlying cause of hair loss is still there. Dont f*** with oral minoxidil, it has all kinds of bad sides.

Cut your hair very short on the sides and a bit longer on top. probably will look good. Can even get a defined part line

5 years on finasteride here too. Works so much better than anything else that if finasteride didn't work for me I would just shave and be done. Haven't lost any hair since I started taking it.

Around 85% of guys on it keep all their hair for at least ten years according to studies. Maybe 30% regrow some. They haven't done longer studies but I think it's safe to assume those 85% will keep their hair indefinitely.

The next best option is rogaine which seems to help maybe 20% of guys long term. Most of those will start losing hair again after two or so years though.

Everything else is maybe 2% chance of keeping your hair long term IMO

Oral minoxidil is dangerous, don't touch it. It was originally used for heart problems and now it's barely used for it's original purpose because of dangers. You'll find people on the forums taking all sorts of wildly dangerous and probably ineffective things. Read the clinical studies on finasteride and talk to a Doctor

Hello! Thanks alot for pointing this out, I just have 3 questions, the sides. I've heard they can be permanent. Like there is no way I'm risking any big permanent sexual side for the rest of my life. I'm okay with maybe getting small sides for a shorter period so that I can get off finansteride.

Do you know anything about nizoral shampoo?

And where do I get finansteride? Online? Pharmacy? What dose? I've heard about 1mg and 5mg. How much does it cost?

There's rumors of persistent sexual sides but it wasn't shown in the studies. There's been many studies on finasteride since it was first used for enlarged prostate about 30 years ago. These studies collectively involved a lot of people, many thousands, so my personal opinion is that if permanent sides exist they're very rare. The 5mg dose is the original form used for prostate issues. The 1mg dose is the one they made for hairloss.

Personal opinion again, but I think the guys with "permanent" ED just ended up with it because they got older while they were taking it, not from the finasteride. It's not like ED is rare or even uncommon as you age. Thats why I trust the studies, they have control groups.

Again, according to studies, side effects are pretty rare. Somewhere around 3% of guys get them. Look up. "propecia package insert" and read the whole thing. It's a summary of most scientific studies and info known about the drug. Ignore any studies without a control group, you won't find references to these in the package insert either.

Some people recommend nizoral but you won't find many studies showing it to be effective, and the one I found showed it didn't do much.

You can get finasteride online but i wouldnt. A lot of guys on the forum do and I think it's idiotic. If you're in the states you can get a years worth of finasteride at Costco for 40 bucks, it's more expensive online, might be counterfeit, and is probably illegal. Just go to a dermatologist and tell them to write a prescription for 6 months at a time. You don't have to be a member to use Costco pharmacy either.

Thanks alot! Had been going back and forth wether I was balding or not for almost a year, it all started off with a really obvious case of telogen effivlium and some telogen alopecia, however what just made me realize that it can't be those things is that It hasn't regrown much, and it's been like 7 months since the effivlium and shedding in showers have stopped, I'm noticing that one side of the hairline is worse than the other and my older brother has had some hairloss.

I'm from Scandinavia/Sweden mostly. I don't think we have costco so I guess I'll talk to a derm.

If I get on finansteride and then in a couple of months also get on minoxidil for a while until some have regrown, can I then get off just minoxidil and regain the newgrown hair with just finansteride alone?
