Ok, so I decided to grow my hair long for the 4th time since I was 16. However everytime I have grown my hair in the past once it gets to a certain length I would start to see major hair thinning to the point of being able to see a lot of scalp. So I'd shave my head and keep it shaved till it thickened back up, usually took like a year or so. This happens every time I grow my hair out(by grow my hair out I am talking about down past my shoulders.) So I had a "good" idea, that I guess I didn't read that much into it or think about it too much. But I decided I was going to start taking 5% minoxidil as I started growing my hair out. I figured if it helps people who are actually balding, it would help me in keeping my hair from falling out while growing my hair long again. I, however, did not know that minoxidil causes your hair to fall out and then regrow the hair.... in about 3months after taking it I went from having a full hair line to having a very weak hairline. This freaked me out and I read on the internet about how it works and everyone basically said to keep taking it and the hair will come back. So I continued to take it for 2 more months. At this point, I no longer had a hairline and I decided to get off of the minoxidil for good. It was causing bad headaches, very itchy and red scalp, almost rash looking. So, it ruined my hair. I was hoping that if I got off of it long enough my hair would start to come back in but it has been a good 5months and it's gotten slightly worse but for the most part looks the same.. Looks like just getting off of the minoxidil is not letting my hair grow back and I have no idea what to do. My head still itches every day around the areas where I was applying the product but the redness is no longer present. Has anyone ever heard of this happening to someone before? I feel like an idiot for taking it without actually balding and for having continued taking it for 5months even though it was causing extreme headaches with redness and itching. I should have read more into how the product works before taking it. I should have just been looking to take root strengthening products. What can I say I'm an idiot.
