Hey I am a 20 year old male, and I recently began taking a generic brand of Propecia to combat my hair loss. I am currently at a NW2 and reaching a NW3 (all of my hair loss is frontal). My hair loss has almost all occurred in like the last year and it is falling out very fast so I went to the derm and he prescribed me Propecia and told me to start on Rogaine. The Rogaine had no side effects but is not slowing down my hair loss and I have been using it for 2 months. My hair loss has actually gotten much worse since I started it. I was a little worried about Propecia so I delayed starting it and began it a few weeks after Rogaine. I then began taking 1mg of a generic brand of propecia daily. After 3 days of using it my penis area felt very strange. Throughout the day I began getting a sharp burning pain shoot up my urethra and it would last maybe 1-2 seconds. I got that every 10 minutes or so for a few hours. So I called my dermatologist and he told me to stop taking the pill until my symptoms subsided and then start using it again. After discontinuing usage the weird feeling in my urethra went away after maybe 2 or 3 days but I never had the shooting pains during this time again. I then started taking it a few days later and I had pains that felt more like in my lower penis area/possibly prostate area that were sharp pains on my second day of usage late at night that occurred every 5 minutes or so. I went to bed and woke up and the pains were gone but my penis still felt uncomfortable so I discontinued usage again and everything went back to normal after a couple days. My dermatologist recommended that I take a half pill this time to see if I have any side effects. So for the past 6 days I have been using a half pill and after about the second day of usage my urethral area felt slightly uncomfortable. I never felt the sharp pains though so I continued dosage. I feel I may have to discontinue it again though because my urethra/penis just does not feel normal. It feels like there is an acid feeling or something in my urethra. It doesn't really hurt, it just feels uncomfortable. It is very hard to describe. I am not sure if this feeling is from the urethra, the penis, or the prostate. Is it possible that the generic brand is causing this or would all brands of Propecia be the same? Do you think maybe my body is rejecting the pill and it is coming out in my urine making my urethra feel uncomfortable? Also is it possible this uncomfortable feeling will subside with continued usage? I have looked online and it seems no one really has had these same symptoms. If anyone has an idea of what may be causing this feeling that would be great to hear your thoughts. I know I could just discontinue usage, but I really can't stand the idea of losing my hair and this is my last option. Also I have not experience any other symptoms. Everything is working fine down there and I am having no difficulty getting erections. Also I thought it could be something with my prostate but there is no burning during urination or ejaculation. Also it does not hurt to get erect. Any help would be great thanks. If you have further questions please ask.
