What did your family's history of balding mean to you?

Now I'm wondering if your family's history of balding really means anything?

All the men on my mother's side become solid NW2s in their late teens/early 20s and stay that way forever (including my grandpa).

On my dad's side, all the men also become NW2s at a young age, but begin losing hair once more in their early 40s/late 30s.

Will my hair loss follow any of these patterns?

But most importantly, how did you lose hair compared to the other men in your family? Did your hair loss follow a similar pattern and occur at a similar age as someone else?

I'm mostly concerned about the AGE at which male pattern baldness hit you compared to other people in your family who also had it.

I want to hear stories and opinions.

There is no rule at all!
Even if your fathers, grandfathers, uncles had hair at a specific age, nothing can guarantee you will have the same Norwood at that age.
From my opinion the worst cases are when both parts of the family have balding history. This can make you bald quickly, before the age any of them did. And i think the lifestyle today, the chemicals and additives surrounding us makes us bald faster then our fathers/grandfather.etc
whether you inherit the balding gene or not and in what amount is a freaking lottery! I've seen many cases: brothers, one is almost bald, the other has much minor problem. Or son who begin balding bad at 20, even if his father/grandfather began at 40-50.
you never know when it can hit you.
But one thing is for sure, if there are many bald men, on both sides of the family, this increases dramatically your chances to begin balding at young age.

However none of them progressed past a NW2!

If none of them progressed past a NW2 (aside from my father who lost more at 40), why would I progress PAST a NW2 at this young age?

In my opinion a NW2 is not bald.

Of course NW2 is not bald.
I've seen cases when son at 25 is NW5 and father at 60 is NW3, so, nothing can guarantee!!
I've seen cases where little brother has more balding than an older one, etc. So there are no general rules.
I've told you, today's lifestyle, stress, chemicals in food and care products make people bald faster trha before, i think.
I don't think you have high probability to get past NW2 at this age, but it can't be completely excluded.
Genes are not all that matters, the conditions in wich you live, your lifestyle, etc, can trigger their manifestations earlier or later.

I actually hope you're right.

I workout 5 times a week and watch everything I eat, and sleep 8 hours a day. If a healthy lifestyle can actually hold male pattern baldness at bay, at least for a while, then in that case I'm good.

Right now I just use Regenepure shampoo. I'm not looking to grow anything back so I haven't bought any minoxidil, and I obviously don't want to risk the Propecia side effects when I might not progress past a NW2.

Also, I'd like to note that I never shed. I have never seen any hairs on my pillow all my life, and maybe a 5 or so in the shower.

I dont got a single uncle on both my family sides who got hair. Both my grandfathers were bald. My cousins are balding.

My dad is 50 and still got a decent head of hair but he was a fantastic minoxidil-responder for years and did a hair transplant like two years ago, so he dont count.

Hairloss history in the family can absolutely make a difference.
Im 21 and going bald, but I hopped on finasteride a month ago and I hope it will work for me.
