Hello all, I've been on finasteride for 2 weeks and just started 5% Minoxidil 2 days ago. but I'm having a lot of dandruff after I applied Mino on my scalp. When I scratch my head, there's usually hair falling off. Is this normal? I'm using Nizoral like twice a week. Should I use it more often? btw, is there any tool that is better than the dipper which comes with Minoxidil?

Sorry about that many questions, but all those small things just make me very worried, so I'd really appreciate any help from you guys!!

Thank You!!

Hey Hemcer,

You need to be using antidandruff shampoos like Nizoral and T-gel. The best approach is to go out and buy three or four with different active ingredients and rotate them.

Furthermore, I've found American Crew Revitalize Spray to be a big help in this department as well (which implicitly means that tricomin and folligen would also work equally as good if not better).

Hope this helps

I`ve used both the 1% and 2%.Both seem harsh. At the minute im using the 1%,I mix it with i little t-sal.I used t-gel for a while but that made me itch like mad.I tend to use nizoral once or twice a week a week.
Im also use an intensive dry scalp lotion from boots,I use that after shampooing with nizoral.so far its working well!

I had the same problem for the first, say, two - three weeks of minoxidil 5%. After about one week, I got T-GEL which I use every other day and the flaking and minoxidil-induced itchiness disappeared. I have been on it for about 10 weeks now. No more itching and flaking whatsoever.

Yeah first week was rough. It'll get better as your scalp will get use to it. It seems like there's a big cycle of like 2 weeks (having no flakes & coming back) It isn't too bad. When flakes become bad, try skipping minoxidil application, that really helps to give your scalp time to heal. Skipping to apply minoxidil here and there is fine.

neutrogena t gel intensive flake control and nizoral are what i use. i rotate both of them... i sometimes add thickerfullerhair shampoo in the routine. neutrogena t gel is a must in my opinion. it's the only thing i've used that actually gets rid of the flakes
