what does DHT do again?

(note: i know i this has probably been discussed before, but doing a search on "dht" only leads me to a big can of worms.)

so what is the purpose of DHT in an adult male? from what i've been able to find online, it seems that DHT's primary purpose is to carry out the maturation of the genitals. it seems to be an important androgen for kids and teens. without it, some don't develop into a fully functional male. but i can't find anything that says it plays a role in the bodily systems of an adult male. and seeing as how our doctors don't hesitate to prescribe finasteride, this might suggest that the role of DHT is a minimal one?

It seems to be important for male maturation in general, many of the changes you experience during puberty seem to be linked in some way to DHT.

I do believe though that in a fair number of people with male pattern baldness, their DHT or free testosterone levels are too high. I have reason to suspect that in my case for example.
