What is responsible for sex drive after puberty?

libido is predominantly controlled by DHT. that's basically DHTs main job post puberty. That and some pubic hair growth. There are other factors involved though.

I wonder if my almost total loss of libido is linked to the pretty decent results I've had with Finasteride then...

Actually, if you read any studies on hormone changes in aging males, one of the most solid theories (and most widely accepted) is that DHT is produced in our bodies to compensate for lagging testosterone levels as we age - What little test we have, seems to be converted to the more potent and active DHT, to compensate for the decrease in test. Also, there are actual sudies showing a direct relationsip between reduced activity in the leydig cells in the testes(the area in the testes that produce testosterone) and increased 5 ar and DHT. If the level of test in your body stays at "normal" levels,it is postulated that your body has less, or even no need to produce DHT in the first place

how can libido be predominently controlled by DHT if most people decrease their DHT levels by 70% (finasteride) or 90% (dutasteride) and only notice slight (if any) decrease in libido?

Doesn't make sense to me.

You also have to factor in the quality of p**rn that a particular person may be in the habit of viewing. Perhaps someone has a lower libido because he doesn't know where to find the 'really good stuff' out on the internet?

the quality of p**rn cannot be overlooked. In fact, probably 90 percent of all sex related side effects to propecia were probably due propecia's inhibition of excellent p**rn selecting judgement, and not due to DHT inhibition.

So whatr now testes or DHT?

It's probably a complicated mix of both, plus genetic predisposition, plus environmental influences and nutrition, plus social experience in the formative years of one's sexuality, plus the presence or absence of high quality pornography.

After years of intensive research, I'm convinced that hot chicks do not go to bars. Instead, they congregate together at pseudo-lesbian pajama parties and sleep over at each others' houses.

You see them at work, at the mall shopping, and at the grocery store... but once the sun sets, they have no patience for men and our silly, shallow, and immature ways and instead prefer to congregate in the company of other women, who are willing to listen to them and understand.

Back in the 50's, they needed us for money and support, so they tolerated heterosexual commitments with men. Nowadays, women have their own money and have the power to make their own choices in life. Given that, why would they hang around these brooding, self-absorbed, and simplistic 'men' who do nothing but give them grief?

I believe the mental fog is not a side effect of taking finasteride butof the worry, stress, anger ,sadness, obsession and fear of male pattern baldness.

It undoubtedly takes its toll on your mind.

Actually, pubic hair is (more) correlated with T and not DHT. Again we hark back to the pseudohermaphrodites from the Dominican Republic. Here's a link and citation:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/quer ... t=Citation

"Their development suggests that testosterone itself is able to stimulate psychosexual behaviour, development of the embryonic wolffian duct, muscle development, voice deepening, spermatogenesis, and axillary and pubic hair growth; DHT seems to be essential for prostate development and growth, the development of the external genitalia and male patterns of facial and body hair growth or male-pattern baldness."

And with regard to DHT and libido, clearly there is some relationship there. But it is not very clear as we've yet to piece together exactly how the AR (androgen receptor) operates. Hence, some people have no problems with finasteride while others do.

... if you went on a zero-fat, zero-cholesterol diet -- you'd probably notice that both your T and E2 levels would decrease a bit.

I don't get mentioned above and this thread together.

If you eat zero-fat meal, than (according to drinkrum) T level would decrease. In this case Chewbacca says DHT to increase.

Those of us who work out burn their body fats, but it is stipulated that their T level goes up. Then Chewbacca would say DHT to decrease.

What's the difference between eating zero-fat meal and burning fats in gym, if they give conflicting results?

hence why i said POST puberty (it does a ton of stuff during puberty), and that dht's MAIN useful function is libido post puberty, and SOME pubic hair growth. I think we agree, but i also think you were putting words in my mouth.
