What is the earliest age that you've seen a guy go completely bald?

I'm interested to know what the earliest age is that premature male pattern baldness can strike for some unfortunate young men. I remember reading somewhere that Androgenetic Alopecia can, very rarely, begin as early as the pre-teens.

One of my friends began developing a receding hairline at age 14. He was mostly bald at 18, and was a full-on NW7 at age 20, with just a thin horse-shoe left. Another guy I know was almost as unlucky. His hair began thinning in his late teens, and he was about a NW5 at age 23. Now at 28, he is completely bald. His twin brother (not identical), as far as I know, has no hair loss at all.

What would you say is the youngest age a guy can reach NW7? Could it be that an extremely early balder could reach NW7 before he's even finished high school?

Good question. Don't know exactly when mine started, but looking at old photos there was evidence at 15. I would say 1.5 to nw2. My front was very thin compared to the rest and my temples were carved out. I didn't start noticing the thinning until 17 however.

One of my friends was full bald by 19-20. I remember at high school graduation party he had a breakdown because his health was declining. He contracted some heavy metal poisoning in his youth that began to manifest its effects later in life. How much it had to do with balding I don't know. We went separate ways for college and via Facebook and other sources he was shaving by sophomore year of college. After experiencing the turmoil of balding myself I still wonder if he made the story up because he had such extreme balding at such a young age.

A good buddy of mine in college was diffuse NW6 coming into school. He looked like a high T guy tho and it remained throughout school. Kind of a blue collar guy that didn't care much about his looks and I even got him started on propecia for awhile and he had great results but wouldn't go through because like I said I don't think he cared. I thought he was a 5th year or grad student when first meeting him and he said he got a lot of **** in high school from opposing team's parents because they thought he was held back like 2 years. Some other friends pretty bad thinning around 21 and another friend pretty extreme recession by 21 to see him shaving by 23.

I started at 17. I am Norwood 4 at 21 now. Probably be slick in 3 years. Technically it should start at puberty since that's when our body produces androgens but hey .. we don't know even 10% of male pattern baldness yet.

You who started balding at very young age, what is your family history of hair loss, do you have balding maternal-grandfather who also started balding very young?

Guys who started balding very young must have very sensitive scalp hair, and according to some research done, gene which is responsible for sensitivity of AR is located on X chromosome, thus beine said, maternal side is more responsible than paternal.

A guy at the age of 16. Hair line was receding very clearly and there was diffuse loss everywhere. He was also a chubby dude. Wasn't particularly athletic or academic. He was one of those "journeyman" type kids who travelled the world and came from an affluent family.

This might surprise some of you here - Which, upon lurking, "hair insecurity" is a common trend among users - But he was popular with the ladies and had countless male friends. I suppose all that worldly experience made him confident at a young age, and that obviously pushed through any insecurities that came about from his premature balding.

so, if your mother's side (maternal grandfather, uncle) started to loose hair early, than you are not happy at all, and you might start too... ?
Of course, father's side plays role too, but if you inherit genes (apparently from your mother) which determine that your hair is very sensitive then sooner, or latter you will start to develop male pattern baldness ?

To summarise: to start balding aggressively at young age you must inherit androgen sensitive scalp hair (which is probably inherited on X chromosome, so as from your mother's side) and medium or high level of DHT (and other androgens) which are deposited inside scalp hair follicles (and this feature is inherited from your father, since I read that hormonal profile is determined by your biological father)

Is there anyone on this forum, who started balding aggressively at young age, but have no hair loss on mother's side? As well as, how common is premature male pattern baldness in ndivuduals who don't have hair loss on either side of family ?

I am going bald at 19. My mothers parents both still have all their hair. And my dad is in his 50s and still has half a head of hair

According to the literature, pattern baldness can start as early as 12, and show marked progression by age 17.

If someone is showing signs of hair loss before this age, its probably not traditional pattern baldness.

Did he lose it before marriage? People here usually say no one gets married to a bald guy. India is probably one of the worst places to go bald. Basically your new name becomes Baldy.
