What is your experience with Finasteride and Minoxidil?

Hello,

Some 7 years ago I got a hair translant. Over the past few years I have noticed an increase in receding on my crown and back. I still have hair there, but very this. My front ( where most of the grafts were placed seems strong). I am not sure getting another transplant is something I want to do at 55yo, but I am curious to know from other members on here what success if any, they have had with drugs such as Finasteride and Monoxidil?

Finasteride slowed my hair loss down significantly. Before finasteride, I was noticing more thinning every 5-6 months, it took me 4 years to notice more thinning while on finasteride. I'm sure that adding minoxidil in will buy you even more time.

It sounds like your front hairline is holding up well from your transplant, but the crown and back are thinning over time. That’s a pretty common pattern, especially since transplanted hairs are usually taken from DHT-resistant areas, while the rest of your native hair remains susceptible to androgenetic alopecia.

If you're considering Finasteride and Minoxidil, many people have had success with them, especially in slowing further loss and even regrowing some density. Finasteride works by blocking DHT, which helps preserve existing hair, while Minoxidil increases blood flow to the scalp and stimulates follicles. Some guys see noticeable thickening within 6-12 months of consistent use, but results vary.

Since you're 55 and not sure about another transplant, you might also look into alternatives like PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy or microneedling, which some people use alongside Minoxidil for better absorption. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is another option that some find helpful in maintaining thickness.
