What makes me angry: myths and lies about hair loss!

Ok, what pisses me really off about hair loss in general are myths and lies which you can even find on official government sponsored health sites such as that you only hair loss if you are shedding more than 100 hairs a day. That must be the biggest bullshit ever. I never really lost that much hair, I lost like 50-60 and thought it was completely normal to lose up to 100 after reading this f***. I didn´t know that thinning hasn´t much to do with the amount of hair you are shedding. Another thing which made me deny my hair loss for many months is that you always read that hair loss starts with temple recession. That’s wrong again, as a diffuse thinner I was thinning all over my head but only checked my temples occasionally for hair loss! Another myth I was told by many people who cut my hair. Up to my early 20s I had a f*****g full head of hair. I always got comments about how thick it was and how I would never go bald. I remember that one guy who cut my hair while I was doing military service. He was 25 and a Norwood 3. When he cut it he said: “Wowww, you got thick hair, you will never go bald!†I replied: “Well, Hair loss is in my family, my father is bald.â€â€You must have it from your mother´s side then.†And since there is only little hair loss on my mother´s side (my 84 year old grandfather is a NW3-4) I was very glad. But four years later I know the truth, the thickness of one´s hair has nothing to do with hair loss. It is f*****g DHT ruining my hair.
But since I had the words of this guy in my mind for years I always thought to myself when I saw another one falling down:â€You won´t go bald, Daniel, you have thick hair!â€
Ok, now four years later I am sitting here, depressive and hopeless due to my f*****g hair loss. Of course, in the end I have to blame myself for not doing anything about it earlier, since I noticed increased shedding already for one and a half years before I started finasteride. But can I really blame myself with all these myths and lies about hair loss you get to hear everywhere? I don´t think so. I should have started taking finasteride immediately after I noticed hairs on my desk and on my pillow but was still a NW1. But now it is basically too late. My hair line is fucked up now, I look totally stupid with my huge forehead.

You simply cannot conclude that you have male pattern baldness just because you see hairs on your pillow. Whenever my dad uses the shower the whole drain clogs up and his hair is like a bears coat and he's 56 years old. So all this losing 100 hairs a day is normal but if you lose 115 then you should get on Propecia is complete bullshit. Some people have longer and some shorter hair cycles but unless they have male pattern baldness hair always regrows.

two days ago ihad to sit in court for some bullshit fine. in front of me was this surfer looking guy with thick straight brad pitt hair, i mean like movie star hair. THe perfect texture, length, body everything. i watched him play with his hair the whole time and play with the ones that fell out. this guy was not going bald in any way, but he still shed a hair from simply running his hands through his head.

just because you shed a hair from washing or playing with your hair doesnt mean youre going to go bald. you didnt do anything wrong by waiting, its normal. noones gonna run out and say they are going bald just because they notice hairs fall out when they run their hands through their head. When i was 14 i used to shake my head over a white piece of paper and play with any hairs that fell out. for some reason i liked to do that. my point is, everyone sheds hair

yeah just b/c you're shedding a lot doesn't mean you're balding. After my cousin uses the shower, there's a ton of hair all over the tub but he's still a perfect nw1 with no signs of baldness. But I guess if you're shedding much more hair than usual, then that would be an early sign of male pattern baldness.

When I think myths, I always think things such as wearing a hat, using hair styling products, etc. I remember an old elementary school teacher of mine told the class that we'd go bald if we keep wearing baseball hats all the time.

it must work best on guys who start it a year or so after starting to bald, or I'm just a bad responder. I think my hair is about the same, but i just can't tell. Though i don't count hairs like some people.

a month or two is too early to tell, college. aplunk said 4-5 months is a good time to examine.

The manufacturers recommend waiting 9months before accessing results.

As for shedding hair, dont worry about whats falling out just worry about if its growing back or not.

Yeah there's plenty of hairloss myths but in the end it all comes down to whether or not your hair follicles are receptive to the effects of DHT. (Bad genetics)

I also regret falling prey into all these myths. I remember I told my mom a while back that I was thinning on top and she replied "Don't worry, I think its the way you cut your hair"..LOL!!!!!!

I'm also in the same boat as you Taughs, I was also regarded as a guy who was not going to go bald.

As far as shedding goes, you can do pull tests or check in the shower and stuff to see how you normally shed and then compare when you get on with treatments but the real way to tell you are losing hair is to take pictures.

Jayman -- I see you list cocaine as part of your regiment. Is that a joke or do you really believe it benefits hair growth?

Also, I'm thinking about getting on dutasteride -- what do you suggest starting out with -- .5 mg every day or .5 mg every other day?

Taugenichts,
I understand what you are saying. Myths and misunderstanding can be very detrimental.

I have always said that the most violent element in society is ignorance!

I am far worse off than you, so all I can say is... Hey, it could be a lot worse. You know now, and hindsight is only 20/20, so deal with the now and make the best of it.

Just because your hair is falling out/shedding doesn't mean male pattern baldness

male pattern baldness works by attacking the follicle slowly over time.

Unless your hairs were being attacked very rapidly then how would be shedding so much?

I really don't get all these users who complain about shedding?

Maybe its Telogen Effluvium or diffuse thinners only? I'm not doubting it just basing my assumption on how male pattern baldness occurs

I lost my temples very fast but i dont' remember shedding at all.

Cocaine is the #1 DHT inhibitor in my book. But none of that cheap Colombian sh*t bra.

Joking

As for the dutasteride dosage, go with recommended dose for the prostate, 0.5 mg per day, every day. That's what I take and it is the safest dose for maximum regrowth. 2.5 mg grew more but that's super expensive and you're venturing into unknown territory if you take that much.

0.5 mg per day blocks 98.5% of type II DHT in the follicle and 50% of type I. You'll either stop your balding entirely for a decade or more, or if you have a really awful case of male pattern baldness then at least you will thin much slower than you would without it. You're buying time with it, and more time than you would with Propecia.

Just pop that 0.5 mg per day every day and don't listen to people on here who tell you that it will destroy your brain or that it's dangerous to take every day. Do you think the FDA would approve a drug like this without considering it?

dutasteride is the #1 thing you can use to maintain your hair so why not be on it? It also regrows more hair than finasteride. Good luck.

thanks for the help jayman.

A couple of questions if you have the time --

Any sides on dutasteride? I'm worried about b**ch tits and sh*t.

Where can I get it without a prescription?

Should I just go with Avodart or can you trust any dutasteride?
