What Should I Look For In A Hair Transplant Surgeon In Australia?

I am asking this question to help others like me who have been searching for the right surgeon amongst the laundry list of candidates out there in Australia alone. I want to know what really are the formal standards I should be looking for, and what other matters should be taken into top consideration.

Number one, forget standards; focus on visible patient results online, and look for doctors with a substantial number of them and high consistency. Most of the institutes out there either allow any and all doctors to join, or the doctor to join for a fee. Very little correlation to quality or skill. Some organisations are better than others, such as the World FUE institute and the IAHRS for the most part. In particular avoid the ISHRS as it has the lowest standards of any.

To make it easier, there are no good doctors in Australia. I know because I am from Australia and did the research and not a single one even qualifies as competent on a global scale, let along a top end surgeon. It is truly a black hole for hair transplant surgery.

Beyond that different doctors are better for different goals, so photos of of your situation, and norwood are useful. I'll give a list of some of the most highly regarded in the doctors for both FUE and FUT.

Canada
Dr. Hasson
Dr. Rahal - both FUT

US
Dr. Konior - FUE and FUT
Dr. Feller - FUT

Belgium
Dr. Feriduni - FUE and FUT
Dr. ******** - FUE and FUT

Turkey
Dr. Erdogan - FUE

Check those options up and I think you'll be sold on at least one of them. Also compare their work to Aussie doctors, you'll realise pretty quick our surgeons are still in the dark ages.

This is of course, to a degree, subjective...but I would also like to add Dr Lorenzo from Spain who is very good in FUE, and also Dr Lupanzula from Belgium who performs both, but is more skillfull and performs mostly FUE. Those are the ones I could think off right away, so there are possibly other aswell :)

You will want to look up Dr. Woods the inventor of the FUE procedure about 20 years ago. So if you are wondering who has been doing it the longest with the goal of minimizing any long term harm to the patient then he is who you would be looking for. The industry actively tried to suppress his method for years and during that time tens of thousands were maimed with strip because they simply did not have the information and most marketers are simply looking to make money.

The forums are a place where the manipulation of information continues so you need to be careful. If you understand the math which Dr. Woods can explain to you then you will understand many of the doctors you see being recommended do not have the long term interest of the patient in mind.

Maybe have a consult and he can give you some of the industry history. Many of the posters on message forums work in the industry so stay aware.

Woods work is f*****g garbage, but I encourage OP to look at his work and compare it to top global surgeons like Erdogan, ******** and Konior. He'll see pretty quickly that he's incompetent, just like the rest of the surgeons in Australia.

Have a consult and learn how the industry works. Check out his website too. Woods doesn't work with marketers so of course the many in the industry have an issue with that as they can not parasite off of his work. Visit him and have a chat. He uses small numbers because the head has about 100,000 hairs and most will lose 50,000 or more. From that 50,000 or less that is available to draw from only a certain percentage can be taken safely long term. He works within the numbers. Many others offer very high numbers and that becomes an issue down the line.

You did say Australia correct? You can go so someone like Woods and have 500 grafts or less. See exactly what you are getting yourself into with your own body and mind while keeping yourself safe. You must keep yourself safe and not rely on Internet posters to do it for you simply because of something they posted. When someone opts for very large procedures they are now locked into the system. You have no choice if/when it doesn't look right. It becomes a form of blackmail and you do not want to be in that position as it is a very weak position.

These are the principals upon which The Woods Technique has been built. Being the best hair transplant surgeon in Australia, this is the list to follow.

  1. No Strip Excision to be performed or offered by the clinic.
  2. No unfair legal disclaimer – This allows lawyers to defend the indefensible results of poor surgery.
  3. Patient interaction and intra-operative monitoring of follicular placement.
  4. Largest instrument to be used for follicular placement in normal skin is a 20 or 21 gauge hypodermic needle. Rarely in thick scar repair, a 19 gauge needle may be required.
  5. Monitoring of Donor Extraction, ( see “M.O.D.E) available upon request.
  6. Donor Site Conservation and Protection – Avoidance of follicular damage due to incorrect technique, inexperience and production line mentality.
  7. No intravenous sedation/analgesia – The patient should be aware, lucid, fully informed and interacting during the procedure. Drugs that significantly affect the patients ability to make decisions and interact must not be used.
  8. Do No Harm

500 grafts for $10000. If you want to look at a guy doing his patients wrong, Woods is towards the top of the pile.

What you want to do as part of research and this applies to all readers is you want to search any posts made by posters you feel a tendency to follow. Read their personal story and their postings and does it add up. You will then want to search the like/dislike category. For example you can look at all the dislikes I have received. Read the postings and ask yourself does it make sense? What am I seeing? Use logic as part of figuring it out. It's a very long process so take it one bite at a time.................it is all necessary in order not to fall into any traps.

Next read some of their responses and ask why the dislike. Then ask yourself could that be me on the receiving end should things not be as they say and you come back to complain. That is if you were to even complain. Many remain silent because they now realize they have been disfigured and being loud about is certainly going to make it difficult to find some help.

Protect yourself and start by having a conversation with Dr. Woods.................don't sign up for anything.............gather information only.
