I'm sick of constantly checking my hair every day. Im sick of living under the illusion that my hair may be getting better. I've been on rogaine and nizoral for another 3 months now, and all I see hairs constantly falling out. Most of the time they're little hairs that are shrinking. Sometimes they are healthy hairs, probably going to grow back smaller next time. Im going to see the doctor in a few days, to see if I should start on propecia. It really hurts when the asses at my school are always like "HEY ANDREW LOOKS LIKE YOUR GOING BALD BWAHAHAH!!!" especially in front of girls. Whatever, f*** them. 17 and losing my hair, genetics suck.

just dont worry about it. do your regimen and then forget it... hope for the best... you're young, u have the best chance of success.... i was balding at 16..... and somehow i still have enough hair that on good days you can't really tell i'm balding... and hopefully the propecia will eliminate the problem all-together.... hopefully.

From what I understand, this is not true. Age is not a determining factor. (and I hate to be negative but, if anything, noticable loss at such a young age is an indication of the intensity of the predisposition). If 'success' can be measured by a full head of hair, then catching it early is your best chance, but that happenes at different ages for different men.

But still, good advice. We all know its hard, but when the only other option is to give up on yourself, its time to get strong. Stick to your treatments, and be determined that some day, you'll show them all (hair or no hair). Fight for success and happieness. Thats what keeps me going.

17 is a bit young to start on the finasteride, and you probably wont be able to get a prescription for it yet. Still, ultimately the choice is yours.

Recently I made the determination to get ripped. My goal is for a complete overhall in six months time. I'm totally changing my eating habits and am going to hit the gym with a science and fury. You might want to consider something along those lines, as well. It always helps with the girls, and will certainly make guys think twice about making any comments about your hair. :D

I know exactly how you feel. I just turned 18 and am still in High school. I'm unsure whether my friends notice it or not, but i haven't heard any comments yet. Every day i live in suspense though. I can just see it now, "dude it looks like your going bald" and everyone not knowing what to say, including myself. I'm just hoping I can get through high school before that day comes. Personally i'm on finasteride right now, but allot of guys my age wouldn't go down that road. I took a risk, but i'm desperate. I don't care what anyone says there is nothing harder then going bald in high school.

Yups, I starting losing hair at 18 as well. My friends were the first to notice it since I was totally oblivious to it. Thanks to them, I was aware of it and now I am treating it, but only 3 years later.

But people have NOT made fun of me about my hair. Even if they do, it doesn't hurt me. Let's face it, when you're balding, people notice it. There's no hiding. Just let your friends know and they'll stop the teasing.

Yes, as FLUX said, hit the gym. You'll feel alot better when you start lifting more.

Matgallis: Obviously i wasn't trying to compare it to things like that. It was just a figure of speech.

pkpkpk: Thats what i find so strange about my situation. I dont think that my hair is overly noticeable and you would have to really think about it too notice it but still, i expect someone would have mentioned it. Especially considering how superficial some of the people i know are. I wonder if they suspect it and just aren't mentioning it.

It all depends on how aggressive your male pattern baldness is. Most people that start losing their hair at a young age will most likely have a more aggressive form of male pattern baldness. Saying that just because you are young does not mean you are going to have good results. I started losing my hair about 2 years ago and I am still in my early twenties. I used the big 3 for a year and did not have any results, I also started treatment within a few months of first noticing I was going bald. If your statement is true that the younger you are the better your chances of success are then my hair did not get the memo.
