I've been taking 1mg of finasteride a day for about 9 years. During that time I did not experience any noticeable hairloss but I believe that within the past few months my hairline has begun to recede and that my hair is thinning out up front.

Therefore, I'd like to strengthen my regimen.

Which of the following 2 regimens do you think is better?

1) 1mg of finasteride a day PLUS ONE capsule of Avodart a week.

2) Quit finasteride and take TWO capsules of Avodart a week.

Or, if you strongly prefer a third option I'd be glad to hear it.

(Also, how long should you try a regimen in order to know whether it's working or not?)

I would play it safe and do option one first. I am in the same boat as you and I was thinking about option one for myself but so far only one person in a study showed it worked better. Not enough people have come forward to say it works better.

How long of a trial do you think I should give it? (I've been leaning toward option one anyway.)

Also, I've searched this forum and other places on the internet trying to nail down the dosage schedule of people that have dropped finasteride and switched to Avodart. Finding that dosage isn't as easy as I'd expected. People seem to be all over the place. Is 2 capsules a week the general consensus?

Do the dosage of the study. Wait a year and see what happens. Many people claim dutasteride is not much better than finasteride and get more sides on dutasteride.
