Why Did My Hair System Suddenly Detached?

I place my hair system over my unshaved head. Apparently, bonding it on an existing hair makes the attachment a lot tenacious since it's attached on hair. I haven't had problems with it. In fact I went on for 2 months without rebonding and it was still stuck to my head like a leach, and I love that. (Even though I know it isn't good to keep it for that long without rebonding)

But...

A month and a few days after my last rebonding session, I wake up one morning and boom! It's off. I freaked out in emotional distress...
I don't understand though why that happened?

I have had this hair system for almost 5 months now. During each session of rebonding, I engaged in very intense activities like gyming, walking under the heat of the sun for hours, running, showering, and whatnot. I never had a problem with my bond loosening off, not even on a gradual phase. It has always had a good adhesion even having done all those wild, crazy practices.

Today all of a sudden, I wake up and out of nowhere, it just comes off like that? ‍♂️

Do you think it has anything to do with itching? Because I itched a lot and I think the friction might jave caused it to loosen up and I might have pulled it off as I was asleep, I don't know but this major tragedy to me...

To be honest, it's hard to tell. You didn't mention the type of base, or what kind of bond. Do you do any scalp prep?

Itching... can be anything, reaction to adhesive, hair growth under the system. Maybe you didn't give sufficient time for the bond . to cure before engaging in some strenuous activity.

Personally, I think even a month is a long time to go without a de/re.

Hi SM

As BaldBearded says, it's not possible to tell without knowing more about the base and the adhesive, BUT

You are right that the adhesives will stick better to hair than to skin, but you are taking the risk of traction alopecia if you do that. The system will continually be pulling on your growing hair, especially when you sleep, and that continual tension will eventually cause the attached hairs to be pulled out, and they will not regrow. I guess that is OK if you are sure you will never need them again.

You are right to say that it is not good for your scalp to keep the system on for a month at a time, let alone 2 months, particularly since you are physically very active. Even Hair Club are not promising a 2 month hold. Just imagine all the sweat, dead skin, shampoo and conditioner residue, hair product, glue mixed with scalp oils etc etc that are lurking under your base. A veritable feast of muck for bacteria to enjoy. Maybe the deterioration of your scalp health is why the adhesive failed earlier this time.

I honestly believe you will be happier if you get into a regular maintenance routine, so that you can have confidence in the stability of your system. Perhaps I am a control freak, but I can't imagine anything worse than going about my life not knowing whether my system is suddenly going to loosen. It's a prosthetic, and it is going to come off at some point. If it coming off in an uncontrolled way is a major tragedy causing you emotional distress, then take charge of the timeline yourself - keep the bond fresh by regular maintenance so that it only comes off when YOU want it to.

Apologies if this sounds like too much of a rant.
