why is nizoral a must have?

hi, so after 2 years of researching and getting my head around the idea of taking finasteride, i've started. a few weeks in and no sides so far. i've a good head of head but have noticed thinning on my center part and on another patch, so I thought screw it - rather than let it get worse i'll bite the bullet and start taking 1mg finasteride.

anyway, my question is why nizoral, will it make much difference if I use it, or I take finasteride and I don't bother?

thanks.

Nizoral is supposed to be good if you have scalp inflammation, though for me it did f*** all except made my scalp itch. If you want to test it, try the 1% solution first if it's available where you live.

thanks.

Nizoral is a weak anti androgen and studies have shown it to be beneficial for your hair (there is a PDF on the studies page of this site). It isn't just the affect on inflamation that matters.

Yah, like growhairgrow says, try the one percent solution first. The two percent gave me psoriasis about where my hairline on my neck is (on the back).

Anyone else had this? I use just one percent on the top of my head and it seems to work great...

Psoriasis is a disease that does not just pop up because of a change in shampoo (unless psoriasis was already present) so I am sure you got a simple skin irritation, but I digress.
The incidence of nizoral being the cause of rashes are very low but certainly possible. Are you so sure that other factors were not contributing to the rash's (i.e. finasteride, minoxidil or other soaps)? Are you sure that your skin was not just adjusting to normal after being damaged from finasteride or minoxidil?
Anyways, one common thread with nizoral is that it at least increases the normal hair shaft diameter contributing to healthier looking hair. It was included with the finasteride study group and people who attempt to treat their hairloss all seem to love the stuff.

Since we all have to use shampoo on a regular basis, nizoral is a easy decision. I have been using 2% since Xmas 2006 and my stuff only gets dry and itchy if I use it every day. I use it M, W and Fri.

I would love to try the 1% solution, but unfortunately it isn't available here in Finland. Could it be diluted with water?

Buy it online, the 1% I used to use came in a 200ml bottle and lasted for months

hmm.. maybe it's worth using it every other time I wash my hair then, see how I make out with that. I'll do some reading up on Nizoral I think, thanks.

As for finasteride irritating scalp... how!?

Nizoral is a "must have" because it's an cheap boost to any regimen than takes no extra effort.

they say to use it 3x per week. 1% is just as effective as 2%, but costs less and does not contain salicylic acid, which can be harder on your scalp.

It is not a must, but it is helpful, and so cheap and easy to use, that you might as well.

Bullshit, just take a look at the masses of people who got itchy scalp and increased shedding while showering. Mark, I advise you NOT to use it. In the end it is just a shampoo.

And take a look at the masses who don't... ????

It's never given me a problem and I use it every other day.

If your scalp doesn't like it, just throw it away. What have you lost? A few bucks at most?

Shedding is good

How many more times must this be said?

Yeah, it's "just" a shampoo that has proven anti-androgenic/anti-fungal properties, that is ridiculously cheap per application and takes no extra effort to use (you need to shampoo your hair anyway, right?).

re:

People need to chill out. nizoral is not going to grow a perfect hairline but studies show it improves the hair health of men with male pattern baldness. It also counter acts the drying effects of minoxidil. No matter if you use it or not it is not going to make a huge difference but for something that only costs a few dollars and one bottle lasts months, why not give it a shot? I like the stuff and many other on this board agree.
As far as finasteride causing problems with skin, it happens in some cases but it is rare IMO. For me, finasteride made my skin (especially on my arms and legs) much more dry.

It made my hair dry and look like a bail of hay.. but that's just me. May as well try it, it's a cheap experiment.

Yeah, just like the masses of people who never got cancer from smoking. Proves a lot I guess......

another "proof" for the safety of Nizoral.....

Is it? That is news to me. Yes, in some cases it is considered as a normal reaction to treatments, but I have never heard anyone saying that it is actually positive. And I also doubt that it can be considered positive when a shampoo is as agressive that it makes you shed hair.

I don´t know where Marc is from. To me Ket-Shampoo is very expensive since I have to buy it from ebay USA.
And in the end I was just giving Marc my opinion, he is free not to listen. You could be more tolerant towards other people´s opinons particularly if you make claims that are simply wrong.

And he was doing the same thing you were doing, giving his opinion and you jumped at him also screaming it causes shedding in the masses which isnt a verified claim either.

but are you 100 percent positive that it caused you to shed, or did you just notice the hairs because nizoral doesnt lather as well. Lather is a very convenient way of not "noticing" the stray hairs you lose...id bet you lost the same amount of hair washing your hair with a diff product if you clogged the drain and actually counted individual strands instead of having them camoflauged by the suds in the lather...
