after 2 yrs of refusing to take propecia, im starting tomorrow cuz i really have no other option, im 21 and losing it (in my opinion) badly. I've read some horror stories about people who've taken it. Any advise? im doing 5% minoxidil as well, should i look for regrowth or to maintain? if I do maintain, is surgery an option in like a yr get get back what I lost?

It's hard to be patient when you're young and losing it badly. But your best bet is to give finasteride/minoxidil 12-24 months to do their thing.

I started finasteride about 5 months ago, and wish I had started 2 years ago since I have not experienced any bad sides. Just keep a clean lifestyle -- workout a lot, eat good foods, stay away from drugs and I think you'll look and feel great overall.

Many people don't get any sides but if you do you could always reduce your dosage as I have. Some people live with the sides and say they go away after a while, but I couldn't handle them and reduced my dosage to 0.25mg per day. This amount seems okay for me and I haven't had any major sides. The only noticeable side effects I have is my seman is a bit more watery than it used to be and I no longer get morning boners.

I have now been on 0.25mg for almost a year and during that time I haven't had any major sheds. I haven't had any regrowth but I don't think my hair has got much worse. Hopefully I will see more results just after the year mark as some people seem to.

I'm 20, and I started propecia a month and a half ago. No sides thus far.

you need to rely on the scientific data that is overwhelming... sides are less than 3%

anything that you read here means nothing in terms of representing the general population, most people post here because they do have problems and want a place to vent or ask questions... the people who are having success are more likely not to post, or even look into posting on the internet because they really have no reason to...

don't sweat it and good luck

If you do get side effects, they will go away when you stop. only guys who ignore the side effects for 8 months will get man boobs, and that is very rare even then.

3% get side effects, but the same percent of people on placebo get side effects, so unless they are very bad, just wait it out 2 months before deciding, since they will go away by then.

I wish I had started at 18, when i was just a NW2

i just have comment on what subliminal said.

eating clean and working out will make you look and feel a lot better, and will take your mind off your hair and give you self esteem, but it will not affect your hair loss at all. lifting weights might hurt your hair by half a percent, and doing just cardio might help your hair by a percent. but the only solution to hair loss is to get on finasteride and minoxidil as early as possible and get into shape as soon as possible so you can get women with you muscles while you still have hair.

as for researching better hair treatments, that is a trade off. the more you search, the better chance you have of getting on board as soon as possible, but the more you search, the less time you spend living your life. it is kind of like playing the lottery. i think using nizoral 1% once every 3 days is an easy, inexpensive bet though.

question: i know propecia and other drugs are metabolized by the liver, how does drinking interact with propecia? im by no means an alcoholic, but im 20 and party a decent amount and am wondering if ill really f*** up my liver if drink and use propecia, each alone is sortof bad enough...may sound like a stupid question but id like to still have a liver at age 40.

Get your RX from a doctor so he can monitor you while on any prescription, this should ease your worries yes? I see my doctor for my 4th year Finasteride refill in 2 weeks.

no sides here!

I have been on Propecia 1mg since 8/1/99 and have had no side effects at all! The only thing I could say is it may have lost of of it effectiveness in the front. I am still A NW2. Hope that helps.
