First off, why do people keep saying you need to give finasteride from 1-2 years, or even 5 years. If finasteride does not work in a year then it will not work it even says it in the box, period. But 4 months? Yeah that's not enough time to let it act.
Also, 5 mg? I don't think it's worth to take that amount of finasteride everyday. You are risking permanent sides with it (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17655657) and when comparing to the 1mg standard dose the higher levels of dht blocked are not that significant.
If I were you, I would slowly decrease the dose until getting to 1 mg, and then wait for a full year.
