Finasteride is the biggest catch-22 in the history of catch-22's

"Ride out the sides, your body will adjust, after 2 months your body should get used to it"...But if it doesn't adjust, you'll be on the drug for 2mo and have an even harder time reversing it's side effects, potentially have sides for a long period of time/forever.

Absolutely ****ty odds, man.

ive taken it for months and felt sides and came off and got better within 2 weeks, i think you really have to be unlucky to have permanent sides, and i think when you're on treatment and the sides arent TOOO crazy, simply stopping treatment will get you better.

there is 2 main occassions where i quit finasteride after 4+ months of use, one was beofre last summer, i noticed sides and was about to go to Abilene, stopped taking it a week before Abilene, mid way through my trip i was getting my good old raging boners, second time was january, i had some problems getting erect and stopped, within 2 weeks i was completely finasteride.

yes, side effects are def more than 2% i dont even think we need to argue that anymore, but permanent sides are still very very unlikely. Take it from a hypochondriac.

also, one thing i advise, is dont masturbate until at least a week and a half of you ceasing treatment. i say this because when i quit, i paranoia masturbated the first couple days and this brought my sex drive completely down for another week. But when i quit the second time, i waited at least a week and a half and it seems that masturbating kinda rebooted everything to normal, after that one session i was popping non stop stiffys and they were visually more solid and bigger.

dont take anxiety meds, wtf you dont even have pfs, and your chances of getting it are SOOOOO LOOOWWWWWW

yes, take meds to offset the anxiety of other meds potentially wreaking havoc on your body, in the state hes in id imagine he wants his body to be as clean as possible, so in that case he should be staying away from alcohol, marijuana and tobacco.

I've been taking Propecia for 12 years with much success and zero sides. However, I recently had some health issues that made me question a lot of unhealthy lifestyle choices. So, I'm on a quest to "get clean" so to speak and I'd like to get off propecia. After all, I'm almost 42 now and I don't feel like taking it for the rest of my life.

Well, today I started researching side effects of Propecia to see if there was any possible connection to my recent health issues. I don't see any correlation, but whoa, did I open up a can of worms!! Last time I checked, Propecia was perfectly safe for 98% of men and for the 2% who had erectile issues, all they had to do was quit the drug to go back to normal. Apparently a lot has happened since the last time I researched the safety of finasteride. Now there are a lot more side effects and some are permanent?

From what I can determine, however, most of these PFS suffers had issues while they were on the drug, right?

I'm worried that I'm perfectly fine now but might develop issues after I stop the drug - some sort of withdrawal symptoms that mess up my sex drive.

Have any long term users developed side effects only after STOPPING the drug?

I wish I never researched this because I would have quit in blissful ignorance. But now the Internet has me thoroughly freaked out.

man, pfs is such a bad disease because like you, most people who dont suffer sides will probably only do the extensive research when they wanna come off the drug, and then they get hit with this pfs talk. From experience after taking finasteride for 5-6 months (my longest stretch) ive came off the drug twice and sides didnt last longer than a week or 2. Like when you commence propecia your body has to adjust, so once you're off it, your body does have to adjust again, especially after 12 years. So i think stopping the drug and leading a cleaner lifestyle will only benefit you if situations were to arise. I highly doubt you will ecperience anything permanent after you tolerated the drug so well. Please keep us updated on what does happen though, we have rare 10+ year users who come here and share what happens when they get off finasteride, besides br1.

Also there is evidence it stays in the scrotum around
five years after you stop. This was from a US study.

Do you happen to remember which study? I'm curious about this.

You mention you experienced side effects that lasted a week or two when coming off the drug. Did you have any side effects while on the drug? I didn't. Not even for a day. I started taking it in 2004 and the only thing I noticed was more hair.

I'm trying to determine if there are any long-term (no side effect) users who developed side effects, even temporary side effects, only after they STOPPED the drug. It's funny, after reading this PFS stuff I'm actually more cautious to stop finasteride than I ever was to start it. I didn't think twice about starting it because if I didn't like the side effects, I'd just quit - and they effects were supposed to be temporary.

I'm also wondering if 90% of PFS is a mental thing. I only ever had ED one time in my life and it was years before I started propecia. It was due to insecurity and entirely a mental issue.

I guess my initial plan will be to step down gradually so I don't freak my system out. If I do develop some issues, I supposed I could always resume taking finasteride.

This is what I'm worried about. It makes it seem like this guy was a happy Propecia user who developed nasty side effects AFTER he quit the drug. As I've been fine on the drug, maybe I shouldn't chance it and just stay on it forever?
