Finasteride Shedding And Reflex Hyperandrogenecity !!! Plz Help Me !!! What Should I Do ???

Bro imo you need to get off of it.
Try other treatments meanwhile. RU, Zix, Rogaine, microneedling etc. there are many others. I hear that Zix can lower DHT levels in scalp alot. And RU has been very effective for a lot of people. Its efficacy is said to be even better that finasteride. We’ll never know if we never try.

besides that drug is already screwing your hair up. So whats even the point in taking it ?

Not sure what to think anymore. I skipped dutasteride yesterday but took it today. I’m terrified that If I drop all blockers that I’m going to lose it all in a matter of months. In looking at my pictures from November when I dropped finasteride it wasn’t as bad as I recall even though it was still far below baseline. I think I made a huge mistake by not staying on finasteride while dutasteride built up. Then the other side of me thinks these medicines are f*****g me up. I’ve read horror stories that dropping blockers will lead to an unbelievable shed. And I can’t afford any more large sheds. I have no idea what to do.

Man i strongly suggest to drop this crap. This is doing more harm than good. You can give it another shot anytime in future. Maybe a year or two later. It may work then. Meanwhile there are plenty other alternatives im looking for that you can consider as well.

btw i just buzzed my head today and my density looks terrible. 50-60% density lost in these 6 months.

Do you have a unusual high libido?
That combined with itchy scalp have always been the biggest telltale of reflex hyperandrogenecity for me.
I would wait for the blood test.
But ultimately, you would be needing to go back on treatment in order to save your hair.
finasteride + RU should be a good starting point, just remember to STAY on the finasteride this time.

Have you dealt with reflex before? While I'm still not convinced it's real, I was on finasteride for 6 years~ prior to a forced break (ran out due to covid) and upon starting again (around 3 months in) I have the scalp oil/itch/acne and a ton of shedding/continued loss. I also had the itch before I started finasteride years ago.

What blood tests should I look into? Should I cycle off finasteride for 2-3 weeks and try to lower the dose and get back to a full schedule?

Not that you asked me but 4~ months into restarting the symptoms are still there. Shedding handfuls and extreme scalp irritation. I'm still on finasteride though, just dropped my dose to 2x weekly.

Also, this guy started and stopped finasteride 3 times within what seems to be a year and a half and then is shocked that his hair got fucked up. You're just messing with hormones at that point and probably flooding the scalp with mixes of T/DHT. Finasteride induced Telogen Effluvium is pretty well documented.

Ok. So finasteride has destroyed my hair

The story :

I experienced crown hairloss in November 2018.
I have genetically a very strong, thick and low hairline. But my crown was destined to be fcked.

so i went to a dermatologist and she prescribed finasteride. I started from first week of December 2018 and stayed on it till end of April. 0 side effects.

here’s the crazy regrowth it gave me in just 5 months, i almost forgot that i had hairloss. (note that i am under bright lights in both pics) :

Then my mother’s dermatologist scared her of the sexual side effects of the drug and she took me off of it. So i tapered off of it in next 15-16 days. (Foolish me for not making my own research)

4 months off of it and i experienced loss again and as soon as i noticed i panicked and jumped back on it in last week of August 2019.

This time from my 3rd dose of Finasteride... my hair became lifeless and massive... i mean a huuuge shed started all over my head including sides (not much from back). I looked it up and thought it is the finasteride shed that many others are going though or have gone through.

Success stories backed my persistence and i foolishly kept on taking it cuz i refused to believe that a drug supposed to save your hair can destroy it.

shed stopped progressing after 2 months in which i lost 40-50% of my hair. I didn’t recover and then another shed came in 5th month.

The shed came with some symptoms as well :

-Itchy/tingly scalp
-increased body hair growth
-i also experienced prostate sensations/pain 3-4 times in the first 3 months.

I always had oily skin so i dunno if that increased. No Acne though.

searching it up, Reflex Hyperandrogenicity scared the piss out of me. But i guess thats what i have.

I went to a renowned endocrinologist here after 5 months on finasteride and he asked me for some blood tests after a 1 month course of the vitamins he has prescribed. But he asked me to drop finasteride first.

i tapered off finasteride and now it has been 18 days that im off of it and taking his vitamins. My blood tests are due in first week of March

Im still shedding and scalp is still itchy and tingly (although it has reduced somewhat now since i am off of it)

I desperately need suggestions on what should i do ?

I have started PRP sessions 3 days ago.
Im also gonna place an order for RU58841 and Rogaine (minoxidil) soon. I am also thinking of adding nizoral after Regenepure DR has not done much good.

It's weird that your story is almost the same as mine, although I was on finasteride a lot longer then 4 months to start.

6 years with no sides and significantly slowed hairloss, had to quit this year for 2-3 months due to covid. Got back on and it's destroyed my hair. The worst part is the intense burning ontop of the 200+ hair shedding daily. Because I only restarted mid-october though, I don't know if I should ride it out and hope for minor recovery or just give up. The catch up loss after 6 years of use is probably going to be the end of my NW3 hair anyways so I don't have that much to lose I guess.
