My father has hair loss but much less aggressive than mine. I'm like an Arjen Robben. I think that when I was at age 25 I had less hair than he did. And now I've gone way past him. On my mother's side I am not sure. But most of the extended family have good hair. There are some NW1 past age 50. I am the odd baldie out at family events and it's why I'm a hat prisoner. I wear a cap even when I am wearing a formal suit. Better to wear a hat and look silly than to not wear it and be pathetic while everybody can see that your life is ruined. A bald guy should be ashamed and hide himself away because going bald young is shameful.

That's true. minoxidil alone just kept me above baseline for 1 year. I even delayed minoxidil because when I first tried it, I had some weird heartbeat. I went back to it a few months later because I realized that the heartbeat stuff wasn't causing any trouble, that none of this has been found in trials, and that even risking cardiac illness could be justified in an effort to stop baldness. With finasteride, I still feel like the chances of serious and persistent side effects is too high with finasteride. People quoted numbers like 0.01%. That's huge. Compare it with the Covid-19 vaccines for example. But we don't know how my life would have been different if I had used finasteride.

I don't know what the actual percentage was but it was 0.01% or higher. I compared that to everyday medication like flu shots or aspirin and found that finasteride was much more risky. I also figured that I have been so unlucky in my life up until now that why wouldn't I also be unlucky with finasteride. And what about finasteride and fertility/birth defects? It doesn't matter anyway, us people who go bald young aren't wanted or valued by society. finasteride is just a way to hide. Underneath, there is still the baldness waiting to happen.

Federer has had that hairline for over 10 years. He is not actively losing hair and so that's a mature hairline in my view (assuming that he is not on meds). But we are just arguing semantics here.

I used minoxidil religiously for 5 years. I didn't miss a day. Christmas, birthdays, vacations, road trips, airpline rides, weddings and events.... didn't do a thing for me. So you should count yourself lucky that you found a treatment that you are satisfied with and which works for you.

same here, minoxidil didnt do much... maybe for the first month...
oral seems to be better, though...

I thought it helped your hairline? Hairline is most important anyway. Hairline > midscalp > crown because crown is a lot easier to hide by buzzing. If I were to get a transplant I would prioritize the front half only and when all is said and done I'd buzz it 1 guard and at least I could frame my face with my hair.

well, the hairline was so far gone, just one more hair would have been improvement...
i do think it helped the hairline, somehow...
i still dont have any real hairline, though...

crown only getting worse, got to use toppik now... i use that for 6 month now, so during all treatments the crown got worse...

i disagree. i do understand all you peoples hairline obsession, but the bald crown makes the creep...
that is not to say that it is better to have no hairline and your hair starts on top if your head...

i dont need to get nw1 back, or anything...
just to the point i dont need toppik anymore, even if there is still some thinning left... and for the hairline, sure i would like it to be a bit better, not lower, but a bit more ballanced and the temples filling in a little, actually the right one only, i can live with the left one...

if i would buzz im close to horse shoe look... lets say crawn ultra thin and close to jude law in the front... if you like that: go for it...
i honestly think it depends on what you look like...
look at warren ellis, super balding and he doesnt care and it actually looks cool...
even moby looks good these days (of course he didnt when he was younger)...
michael stipe is the only one who comes to mind who really looks good bald and doesnt look like yo dad...

so it depends on your type and my type is different... no lame excuse, if i found some bald style that i would think suits me, i would worry far less...

Warren Ellis actually has reasonably good density. And if toppik works for you, you must have too so don't worry so much. The toppik looks like glitter and derm match like paint for me.

I don't think finasteride would have helped us much. Our hair loss was too aggressive. I saw a pic of me from when I was only 19 (edit: 18 actually) and I was already NW2.5-3ish with diffuse thinning.

If he can grow it out and some of it - even a few hairs - in the Nw6 area are not miniature and can actually be combed, then I'd say that it's good density for over 35. There's still coverage on his head. It's miles better than the Hulk Hogan, for example.

ah alright... didnt know the standards are that low these days...
dont get me wrong, i think he looks cool, though much of that is because of attitude and the entire appearance and so on (which i think is most important anyway), but that is not good density^^

i get what you mean though...

well the hulkster has an iconic hair cut and that is the only excuse for that... the good old skullet!

a lot of tiny hairs growing on my frontal scalp after applying minoxidil,can these hairs ever became mature like rest of the hair

He should have done more research to realize that for aggressive hair loss, minoxidil by itself is pointless without finasteride.

i am using finasteride 3 times a week too with minoxidil daily
