Exact same scenario as you but I also have light diffuse thinning. The derm prescribed Rogaine and said that I should wait a year to see results and know if finasteride is necessary.

I would not worry. The picture are not close enough to see but you have to look for smaller hair - hair that is not able to grow as long as the rest. It usually starts on one side too.
