Ok...has anyone here used dutasteride and not experienced sexual side effects?? Also, has anyone experienced any cognitive side effects? These are what concern me the most. When dutasteride first came out, I asked my Doctor about it, and he said he wouldn't prescribe it because of all of the 5-AR type 1...

Awesome, guys! Thank you very much for the info. I'll start on 0.5mg of dutasteride daily, and only move up to a higher dose if I don't see a difference in 6 months. I responded very well to minoxidil and finasteride, so hopefully I'll also have a strong positive response to dutasteride.

Thank you for the thought-provoking one word response...Let me add to my initial post. I've switched from foam to liquid over the past month, and started to notice vellus hair growth on......wait for it.....the sides of my scalp. And, if it can work for the temples, vertex, and crown, why...

Or use Head and Shoulders every time you shampoo. It has stopped the flaking for me since I switched from foam to liquid...completely stopped the flaking. And I had HEAVY flaking from the liquid minoxidil.

Can Minoxidil 5% liquid be effective for reversing hair loss on the sides of your scalp, in addition to the temples and crown?

I've been using minoxidil 5% for the past 6.5 years and 1x a day actually works better for me than 2x per day. You need to take into consideration that minoxidil can cause inflammation, which may offset its growth stimulating properties. But on the other hand, many are fine with minoxidil 2x/day...

Stop the nizoral immediately. I had the same response and actually lost hair along my hairline within two weeks of starting the nizoral. And this happened when I was using nizoral 2x per week.The nizoral, both 2% and 1%, can be too harsh for some people, and actually worsen seb derm.

The bottom line is if you want to keep your hair, then get on finasteride and minoxidil. Otherwise, go ahead and waste your money on something that was shown to be effective in one shady study.

what about the possibility for long term neurological side effects from 5-ar type 1 inhibition? There is no biological model for inhibition of this enzyme, and 5-ar type 1 is abundant in brain tissue. I want to try dutasteride, too, but I'd like to get a straight answer about this.
