You could coincidentally have male pattern baldness that is starting to kick in. Maybe you traumatized the surrounding tissue and the hair fell out gradually. Maybe go see the doctor and see what's going on.

Friend of mine had a clump of hair pulled out in a fight 15 years ago. It never grew back. He's always had long hair so it is not very noticeable.
