0.5mg of propecia or 1mg?

Hi,

Just a quick question, would it be silly or pointless for me to take 0.5mg of propecia rather than 1mg just to save money in the long run? as I am paying alot at the moment for it.

Am I likely to get more benefit from 1mg or do people get similar results from 0.5?

thanks

yo, im new to this stuff but i've heard the cheapest way is to buy 5mg tablets and cut/divide them by 4 or 5. but they are called Proscar not propecia. perhaps you already know this but just thought id mention it

thanks for replies, where do you get your proscar from? I was aware of this but in UK and people seem to get theirs from different online sites and this cannot be confirmed that they are genuine finasteride...

taking this is a big step for me as I am usually someone who wouldn't look twice at a product like this with some sides people list so want to make sure i get the right stuff and so paying £45 online at boots for 1 month subscription, i know i can get it for 3 months for £90 in the store but not online and id have to join their programme but don't want to go into the store for consultation etc and also i know people that work at the store... lack of confidence basically...

which is why i was wondering if 0.5 would work nearly as good as 1 to save me money?

thanks

I've already contemplated using this for AGES, I eventually decided against it. But before I did I found out enough about finasteride to know that taking 0.25mg is still as effective, and that it has a half life of 48 hours. So before I actually changed my mind, which I do a lot of, I was going to take 0.25mg finasteride every other day. This would make 1 month of the boots supply last 8 months.

That's if you feel confident in taking it, there are other options, but they're ruthlessly expensive in comparison. It depends on how brave you are, there's no harm in trying it out I guess. I'd been advised before I started it to get blood tests for testosterone, oestrogen, LH something or other and FSH or something, sorry I'm not sure on the last but I can't remember what thread it was posted xD. And then test again after a months use, to make sure everything was okay.

hi dave,

i hesitated for years, telling myself if it ever hit "this landmark point" i would jump on it...well my hairline hit that point seemingly overnight and now i wish i had jumped on it BEFORE i hit that point.

anyways, i got my prescription filled and still sat on the pills for months before owning up and finally popping my first pill two weeks ago. im on 0.5mg and no probs at all.

i use a pill cutter to cut it the pill in half. def saves money and if things go downhill i still have the option of going to 1mg

exactly the same as me... i was first off telling myself a year ago I would never jump on finasteride... got great results from minoxidil and nizoral and other supplements but those have faded obviously without taking something like finasteride...

well after much messing trying to find a prescription etc I am happy to say I have now added propecia to my regime and took my first pill today! :)

going to forget about it and just do the treatments and think positive and hopefully in 6 months or so I shall have some good results and the minoxidil will bring me great results again!

thanks for help and advice guys! shall check in on a monthly basis!

Ive been taking 0.5mg of Propecia daily along with Minoxidil for about 4 months.

I experienced increased shedding throughout the second and third month so I personally thought that 0.5mg wasn't doing anything for me but I decided to just wait it out since I read that it is just part of the cycle.

I am already experiencing decent amount of regrowth and less shedding in the shower so it must be doing its job. :punk:
