1mg propecia i used 4 month(hair thinning) but no results.
Today doctor wrote me finasteride 5mg. Should i take 2.5 mg morning and 2.5 night, or 5mg morning?

i think it's not supposed to make any diffrence between 1mg and 5mg, you may consider go on dutasteride

in theory the inhibition is (almost) the same at0.5mg, 1mg or 5mg for a daily dose :

How is that possible? I mean 5 mg finasteride is not used only to cure hair loss but in most cases it has about something else(google).

This one makes more sense:

this one is the effect of one single dose of finasteride, the other one i showed you is for a daily dose, at a daily dose you reach (almost) the same percentage of inhibition

Ya OP you have to give it at least a year before it stabilizes and you know you are a responder. Keep on it. Does anyone know the effect of body mass on dosing?

Regardless of the study finasteride didn't stop my shedding until I upped the dose from 1.25mg EOD to 1.25mg ED.

The study frenchy posted is bull****

I've seen different studies showing different results especially in terms of hair count and 5mg has closer results to 0.1mg dutasteride then to 1mg finasteride

Finasteride 5mg vs. Dutasteride 0.1mg
5 mg finasteride suppressed scalp DHT to a similar degree as 0.1 mg dutasteride group (41% and 32%, respectively). Many of the clinical effects (hair count changes, global panel assessment, and investigator assessment) were also similar in these two groups, supporting the similarity in scalp suppression between 5-mg finasteride and 0.1-mg dutasteride.

Dutasteride caused scalp and serum dihydrotestosterone levels to decrease and testosterone levels to increase in a dose-dependent fashion. Whereas 5-mg finasteride decreases serum DHT by about 70%, dutasteride can decrease serum DHT by more than 90%.

Results
In this phase II, dose-ranging study, 2.5-mg dutasteride was superior to 5-mg finasteride in improving scalp hair growth in men between ages 21 and 45 years with MPHL as judged by target area hair counts, expert panel assessment, and investigator assessment at 12 and 24 weeks.

In a test area at 24 weeks, results showed:

Placebo -32.3 hairs
Finasteride 5mg 75.6 hairs
Dutasteride 0.1 mg 78.5 hairs
Dutasteride 0.5 mg 94.6 hairs
Dutasteride 2.5 mg 109.6 hairs

Finasteride is not the best cure for everyone.Because for some people, hair loss can be induced by Free Testosterone. Finasteride can do nothing for free testosterone. For some people main reason is not only sensitivy to DHT.

And for some people finasteride is better than dutasteride. Because 5 alpha reductase enyzme can be effected from different genotypes. For some genotypes finasteride is better than dutasteride, but some genotypes dutasteride is better than finasteride.

It changes person to person. I know a lot of people who use dutasteride with zero or bad results. And when they change it with finasteride, it works very well.
