I'm one month into taking 0.5mg of finasteride and I've started shedding a few hairs when I shower, that means it's working right? How long does shedding go on for? How long until I should start to see results?
I stopped using minoxidil when I started finasteride as it wasn't doing anything for me.

Cheers!

I noticed shedding practically right after I started finasteride. People around here will say that means it's working. Be sure to ride it out for a year. I'm 4 months in and things aren't looking good yet. Little worse actually ..

Unfortunately I also seem to not benefit from finasteride. I never noticed any shedding when I started taking finasteride but other's may have a different experience. Some people start minoxidil at the same time and that seems to cause most of the shedding(it did for me).

I also had a really bad experience with caffeine shampoo. Just goes to show that everyone is different.

Are you still shedding? I'm not sure I can afford to lose 4 months worth of shedding, it's slowly getting worse!

Hairs take a long time to grow (over the course of months). That's why people always say to wait a year because the hairs that initially shed are fully-grown after a year. Theres always a possibility you won't grow back shed hairs, but you were going to lose those hairs over the course of a year anyways. Are you on minx? minoxidil and finasteride work well because finasteride only inhibits 5ARII in the scalp, but it doesn't "promote" hair growth. It only sets up the "right" environment for hair growth to be possible--you need a catalyst to start inducing hair growth and that's what minoxidil does.

I am.. I've never seen too much on my pillow or in my hats.. But hair steadily comes out Everytime I run my hand through my hair in the shower.

Also I've recently started doing the light pull on my hair.. And hair always comes out. I need to stop..Always a lot more when my hair is dirty and or in the morning.

Well, in my way. Before finasteride i had 10-15 hairs falling out. But on finasteride after 2/3 weeks. I couldn't even notice one hair in shower. And my skin was way better :)

Experience

I did the same as all you guys. Basically was going bald as a bat and wanted to sort it. I was receding since 17. I have used Propecia (generic 1.25mg daily) for the last year and I think the results are okay. Hairline has definitely not gotten any worse if not come back and I do note more volume. Started using minoxidil now too. Shed like a b**ch for a month and I can now see a good body of new hair growing back on top of my gains from finasteride. Its a very slow process, but the way I see it, you have to get worse to get better. I have improved for sure, with no real side effects.
