Hey guys, I’ve been reading these boards and posts for approx 5-6 years now. Very rarely post myself but felt it necessary to do one now. I changed my user name as it had my last name in it - for the sake of anonymity. Here’s my background.

I’m currently 35 years old. I’ve always had a high forehead and thin hair. At 28, I decided to start using propecia and rogaine. It helped me for a few years but then when I turned 33 my hair started to recede again. I believe propecia lost it’s effectiveness and this was causing me to recede faster than I previously did. I just switched to Dutasteride approx 4 months ago thinking it may be the boost I need. Currently, I use Dutasteride and Rogaine foam.

Anyway, I finally decided to get hair transplants. I did my research and settled on Dr Armani. I felt he was one of the best doctors available and scheduled my surgery for 7/4(happy 4th to me).

I felt like I needed to have the procedure done to maintain my sanity. I was very self-conscious about my hair and hated to go out in public. Some people may call me vain for having this done but I just want to function normally and be able to go outside and not worry if people think I’m balding. Regardless, I’m scared to death about it and wanted to post some pics and advice for those who need it. Trust me, I hate going to the doctors and this is a big step for me - FUE for 1280 transplant hairs. My stomach is soo queasy thinking about it and the surgery is still a week away. My goal is to fill my hairline and the most important thing is to have it look natural. I’m praying the surgery will be successful and there are no issues.

For now, I’m going to post some before pics. I shaved my head down last week to prepare for the surgery. Normally I wear it a little longer.

I’ll keep you updated on results, expectations, treatment, etc. Also check back regularly for responses.

First off, good luck.
Your situation is somewhat similar to mine when I started.
Next, there are many things to consider. Are you ready for subsequent hair transplants if you lose more hair? Are you considering strip or fue? Do you have enough donor should you reach a Norwood 5 or 6?

I'm not sure how much more hair I'm going to lose. My father has receded but it's not drastic, he's not completely bald. I just want to have the hairline of a 35 yr old man. I would consider having future surgeries but honestly wasn't planning on it. I'm going to play it by ear. I'm going with FUE as don't want a strip cut out of my head. I have no clue how much donor hair I have, hopefully Dr equates it to a lion's mane

There are a lot of topics going on at HLH regarding Armani's FUE results, I don't mean to scaremonger but I would have a look over there and come to your own conclusions.

Whatever you do I wish you the best of luck.

Lucky, saw your page and hair looks good. I remember seeing your info months ago.

Regarding Armani, I read some of the info on hlh and it seems like every doctor has some good and bad points. I've read the forums here countless times and decided Armani was better suited for my situation. I'm only getting 1280 transplants so I'm not trying to rebuild this perfect hairline, just want improvement. I think his results look natural and I'm hoping for the best.

Armani is a good Doctor, however from your pics 1280 seems low. i get what you are going for, but that still seems low. I've been in the hair transplant seat thrice now, if I would have waited like you, i'd probably be similar Norwood, and I've had almost 5000 through the years. Armani is aggressive on a hairline, he may try to talk you into more grafts, lower hairline. Stick to your guns, this is just my 2 cents, but I would personally go at least 2000 by looking at your Norwood. Then play it by ear. I'd be shocked if you didn't want a 2nd hair transplant after seeing what 1280 could do, you'll wish you sucked it up and went 2000-2500.

Are you only addressing the hairline? In the uppermost pic it looks like you have diffuse thinning that goes far back, maybe into the crown?

I'd like to just fill in the area near my hairline - poss from my hairline to 2-3 inches beyond my hairline. I'm not sure how much ground 1280 grafts will cover. I'll be discussing this with the dr to see what suits me best. I'm not asking for a miracle, just to look more presentable.

As for more 1280 grafts, I would love to get more but financially it's an issue. I'll stick to my guns regarding the hairline.

From what I see you are a good candidate for hair transplant. You only have to worry about the front and a little up the middle. You will have your happy ending, lucky.
