100 hairs on pillow in morning?

To whoever can help

For a while now I've noticed a lot of hair on my pillow in the morning (close to 100 a day maybe), and that a couple of strands will fall out if I run my fingers through my hair while studying or something.

Now, I have never really thought about it as we dont have family history of hair loss on either side, but I was just wondering if this is normal or an early sign? It has been going on for quite a while - not sure if its got worse or I am just paranoid?

I've attached a couple of photos

Any advice would be appreciated

(PS this topic got moved - I think because of 'shedding' in the topic originally)

you look OK

keep an eye on the hairline, if you see any thinning.

also keep an eye on the density on top and the crown/vertex in the back-top.

if any of that seems thinner, you'll prolly want to get on finasteride and you'll probably save all of that hair

I think you're smart to be checking into it. It might sound extreme, but I would get on finasteride, that way your hair holds before you have bald spots/recession.

100 hairs on the pillow is not normal.

Thanks mike_b for your reply.

Does anyone else agree/think differently?

Do you think it would be worth at this stage going to the doctor/dermo to inquire?

You man...just telling it to you straight -- you're showing very very small signs of male pattern baldness in the crown of your head. You can see how it's starting to thin just a littttttle bit up there.

Mine started the same way at about age 24. I got on Rogaine (minoxidil) at age 25..used it for 3-4 years, and then just started finasteride (propecia) about 5 months ago. I wish I would have started on the Finasteride sooner...I still caught it in time, and it is kicking some big time *** on my hair loss, especially in the crown. It's gotten so much thicker up there, and continues to get better. They always say the sooner you start it, the better. The finasteride was the key though. There's no doubt the rogaine was slowing it, but it wasn't reversing it. It kept getting worse w/out finasteride.

I'm not going to sugar coat it...when balding starts, it usually progressively gets worse. So...you'll probably end up watching it get worse and worse like I did, until you do something about it to reverse it. Which, propecia/rogaine combo is your best option right now. Especially when you still have quite a bit of your hair left. Like I said, the good news is that you can take action early these days...it's working for me.

Why do people recommend a perfectly thick NW1 to get on finasteride?

They're overreacting.

He needs to judge the density for himself, and only get on finasteride if it starts to thin to any degree.

I'm just saying dudes...you can kind of see where that thinning is starting to crawl up into his crown just a litttttle bit. Just a little bit of thinning. Give it 5-10 years, and I'm saying that his crown is going to be noticeable.

So, if "noticeable" isn't doable for someone, then I'd suggest plugging in the Finasteride, because the sooner you do, the better. I was a NW1-2 just like that...and became an NW3 w/ a thinning crown 5-6 years later. I'm 29 now. And I still caught it in time, because I'm about back to a NW2 (the finasteride has been doing a good job for me). I hope to get to my NW1, because I've only been on finasteride for 5 months...and it's really kicking ***.

I'm just saying, the sooner you catch it, the better...and the better your treatment results will be. Go get an MD to diagnose that sh*t. I had an MD diagnose it when I was 24 (and you could barely see my thinning back then, just like the first pic). But I didn't start treatment because it cost extra money that I didn't have back then. 5 years later at 29, I was just a little bit thinner, but I could afford it. I started treatment, and it's working for me. It just depends on whether or not you're a responder to finasteride.

Don't just get on finasteride. If you aren't sure you are thinning or not, ALWAYS get a miniturization test at your derm. If you are, get on finasteride. Simples.
