11 months of shedding

approaching the 11th month mark on finasteride in another 10 days. Thinning diffusely all over. no bald spot as such . slight hairline and temple recession.

I've been shedding and shedding even before i started finasteride. I lose a minimum of 50-70 hair a day. I clog up my sink and shower drain every damn time.

anyway..i still hung onto the finasteride thinking it would kick in sooner or later. Now its 11th months and i'm still shedding the same way.. only worse considering after taking finasteride i started shedding an insane amount of hair from the nape of the neck area .

i seem to be losing alot of vellus hair at this point...alot of which is from the nape.. everytime i tug i end up with 2-3 hair and its almost always extremely fine.

got a haircut right now and theres no denying my hairs thinner than ever.. when i slick my hair backwards it just sticks to my head as flat as paper..and my right temple seems to be slowly receding into the shape of and size of a golfball..

i guess 11 months of finasteride wasnt enough to prevent further thinning..

anybody here who had results towards the 12 month mark or soon afterwards? :D

I noticed you only take a 1/4 Proscar every other day. Is this correct? I have read several reports by people like Dr Rassman on his baldingblog.com web site that claims such intermittent use essentially renders the treatment ineffective.

the 1/4 proscar dosage for just during one month last year..in august. The fact that my 'initial' sides were still there.. the lack of libido was troubling me so i was experimenting with a lower dosage ..but i gave in.

i'm on 1 mg finasteride.

3500 mg msm..

a 30 mg zinc tab..

thats pretty much it.. left the nizoral cause my scalp started itching more when i'd be using it..guess it was too harsh for me.

I took 1/4 proscar daily for 14 months. The first 8-1/2 my hair nearly stopped falling out but after that i was losing tons of those thin colorless hairs. At first i thought the vellus hairs weren't too important but when they weren't growing back i knew i was screwed. Those hairs give your hair all the density and poofyness. Without them your hair becomes dead and flat, not to mention a lot thinner.

Since the 3 weeks i've stopped taking proscar i've been losing half as much hair but it's still to much to survive male pattern baldness. After another week im going to start avodart. Personally if you shed a crap load of hair for more than three months i think finasteride has lost it effectiveness.

You might be a slow responder to finasteride treament.

What is your Norwood - before - and now?

Any pictures?

My personal recommendation, is to complete the Holy Trinity:

Minoxidil
Nizoral

+Finasteride

=The Big 3.

i'm thinning diffusely.. so i cant really tell you in Norwood terms..

but lets say i've lost about another 15%+ density since i've started finasteride. alot from the nape area i should add which is really weird. and i'm losing most of the vellus from the nape as well.

I cant believe that i've been shedding for a straight 11 months in a go... most of the stuff i read here, people usually talk about their month long shed..or 3 month shed.. bloody hell..i've been shedding for 12 months (counting the month before finasteride) !!

my temples look incredibly bad when my hairs long.. when i get it short i can hide them somewhat..

as for minoxidil..i dont believe in that if the finasteride doesnt help, considering it doesnt address the underlying cause of the hairloss.. it wont help me retain..maybe give me a little vellus fuzz regrowth.

plus minoxidil would be incredibly expensive to apply since i'm thinning diffusely?..

It's not a hassle, really.

Minoxidil works synergistically with Propecia.

Give it a shot... Honestly. If you can hold onto your hair for another 3-5+ years with Propecia and minoxidil, all the better for you.

I'm a diffuse thinner and a receeder, and used Propecia and am currently using Dutasteride. My brother, only 3 years older, is a Norwood 4... I wonder if I'd be there myself without these treatments.

I didn't see results until I started using minoxidil.

I suggest waiting that one more month to make it a full year. Then assess your hair. Has it really gotten worse? I remember my first year of Fina, I wasn't sure if it was working or not. Sometimes I would think it was working, other times I was just shedding. It was a roller coaster. Around 6 months I thought it was working, then I shed. Then at 9 months I thought it was working, then I shed. After the first year, I really realized it was working. I compared before and after.

If after this year its not working, throw in the minoxidil. You'll get some nice regrowth with it.
