Hi i am only 15 years old and i already have a bad receding hairline and im scared that it just is going to get worse and worse. The part that is receding is just the corners of my hair so basically my hairline is sort of V shaped. It started around maybe 6 months ago and i didnt really think anything of it, but now my friends are actually asking me are you going bald which is really embarressing. Im not really sure what to do, should i start using some hair product like maybe rogaine or whatever else is out there? If anyone can give me some tips on what to do please post because i dont want my hairline to get worse. Thanks

Hey Mark, it sounds like the beginning of male pattern baldness. I would start with propecia, you can get generic all over the net. This should halt the loss. If this doesn't seem to work then try Dutasteride [stronger, but more side effects], again generic all over the net. Also throw in Nizoral shampoo twice a week, this should be a staple in hair maintenance. I wouldn't worry about rogain just yet, it only promotes growth at the vertex. The Propecia\dutasteride with nizoral should prevent that.

I would do some more research on the effects of reducing DHT at such a young age. I'm not sure if you'll find anything or not, but it might not be a great idea of messing with male hormones before you're fully out of puberty. We know (mainly from just looking at side-effects) that DHT does not do that much in an adult man, but I haven't read much about DHT through puberty.

I'm not saying you shouldn't take it. I'm just saying I would do some more research if I was you before jumping on that ship. You should also first make sure you have male pattern baldness. Why not wait a couple of years?

Before doing anything you should see a dermatologist!

Playing with drugs before seing a dermatologist could have very serious consequences at your young age.

Good luck with your visit! :)

DHT is as far as I've heard really important in puberty. I've heard it governs many of the effects of masculinisation including dick size. Do your research first, dude.

Wow, he's 15! This kid is still growing. I would ask a derm before you do anything. Also, what is your family history? Is your dad and your daddy's dad bald? If you are going bald this early, your best bet is to accept your fate

Stay away from propecia/dutasteride till your at least 17 then speak to a doctor, way to young to be playing with drugs like that!!

Not just small genitals, less height, less muscle, etc. Someone as young as you should definitely not be taking DHT-inhibitors--stay away from finasteride. Go see a doctor and/or a dermatologist, it's my bet they'll advise you to stay away from finasteride and dutasteride. You only get one major growth spurt in life, and you're in it. For all you know by the time you're 25 they'll have much better solutions to hair loss--maybe before then.

This early, topical solutions should keep you on track until your body is mature enough to take DHT inhibitors. Plus, judging by all the infos coming in lately, a cure (or something close to it) should be available during your 20th...

15 years old? SEE THE FAMILY DERMATOLOGIST!!! Agreed regarding you're too young to start messing with these chemicals!

This is your best bet chap. Find a good topical regimen, which means researching the net and get hold of some Nizoral shampoo and a good conditioner.

Yep... images will help us understand you situation and give you better and more informed comments.

In my opinion, as good as finasteride will be for you in a few years... id be VERY hesitant to start it now.

I agree... check with your derm first

Your derm can decide whether DHT inhibitors are OK for you at your age.
They may or may not be, depending on where you are in puberty. A 15 year old can be fully past puberty, just beginning it, or going through it. However, if you are already receding, chances are that you are fully past (or almost fully past) puberty, because a certain circulating level of androgens is necessary for balding to occur. You can have a general idea of where you are in puberty (do you have to shave regularly, only once in a while, or not at all? has your voice broken? do you get acne? etc.)
So just check with your derm whether its safe for you or not.
Cheers,
Arjun

im 17 and i dont have receding hairline but i do have thinning all over, i never considered dermatologist because first my family dont think i have problems with any hair loss what soever (even though my dad is a horseshoe type and from the looks of it im going his pattern) well anyways here are the good news and bad news that i learned for my stay here for a year

Good news:

1- ) You catched it early, so you can go ahead and start on minoxidil and nizoral like im doing without any danger to your genitals or growth spurt, because finasteride can really be dangerous especially when you a teenager that is growing, so you dont want your body to look like something completely different when u reach 20. minoxidil really thickens your hair as well btw

2-) By the time you reach 20-25 there will be much better solutions to hairloss so you "could" really have full head of hair if you start saving money for those new stuff now and then go ahead and buy the products or the new cell surgeries that is much better from the hair transplants we have now.

Bad news :

you can't start on finasteride, because its too dangerous for your age and it can affect your life, just for saving some amount of hair dont mean crap when you going to have an crappy outlook for rest of your life, i'd say wait until you are 20 and get on propecia when you completed growth spurt. Any dermatologist will say this and they wont even tell you to use minoxidil, but you can use minoxidil since it doesnt do any damage to teenagers like finasteride/Duta does.

good luck

mature hairline?

For god sake do not take finasteride or dutasteride at 15! don't even consider it untill you are 18.

If you receding continues then look at a topical DHT ihibitors like spironolactone, but you hairline may just be moving to it's 'mature' position.
