Hi,
I’m 17 and my hairline is beginning to recede (at the temples about a Norwood 2) and at the front of my head there is lots of thinning. I went to Belgravia centre and was told I was too young to take Finastride and was subsequently offered minoxidil but decided to turn them down as they offered a very extortionate fee for something which is available for far cheaper on the market. After, I did lots of research into the best minoxidil product and decided to go with Lipogaine largely because of the good reviews online. I also have decided to use dermarollers (0.25mm every other day and 1mm once per week). I started the regime 3 days ago and am yet to have faced any shedding, however I was left very surprised at how the lipogaine has left my hair looking sticky and awful after applying it in the morning despite my short haircut. I am contemplating using rogaine foam in the mornings and lipogaine with a derma roller at night, do people think this is a good idea or is combining two minoxidil products a recipe for disaster?
Cheers

Not at all. However you should know minoxidil is generally not as effective as finasteride in halting hair loss. You may want to try finasteride when you grow up.

In my experience and from what I’ve read minoxidil works for about two years and then slowly stops working as good. I had a lot of success with it for two years. In four years I’ve lost about half of the hair I gained. Still better than what I was. However, it will halt it until you’re older and can use propecia. It’s easier to slow hairloss than it is to regrow it. It won’t hurt to use both products. But minoxidil has a half life of 22 hours so really only necessary once a day.

I would advise you to consult a doctor. You should not take incomprehensible drugs. For example, I always consult a doctor first. I recently found https://betterme.world/articles/easy-calisthenics-workout/ and started doing sports to lose weight. But I also want to go and get tested at the same time to know for sure whether it is due to health problems or a lack of vitamins

I use the Equate liquid brand from Walmart. Use it at night before you go to bed and in the morning a few hours before you go out if possible. It takes about 4 hours to completely absorb but I try to keep in on for a few hours before I take a shower in the morning. Your hair will look like crap if you try to keep it on during the day.

Totally get where you’re coming from. At 17, seeing a receding hairline and thinning can feel overwhelming — especially when it hits your confidence hard. You're smart for doing your research and thinking it through instead of just buying into overpriced treatments.

Lipogaine is a solid pick, and combining it with a derma roller is a good move. That greasy, sticky look it leaves behind though? Super common complaint. Using Rogaine foam in the mornings and Lipogaine at night actually makes a lot of sense. Foam’s way easier to style with and doesn’t make your hair look like you haven’t showered in a week. Just keep in mind you’re still getting the same total dose of minoxidil — so 1ml twice a day max is key.

Your derma rolling schedule sounds fine too. Just go gentle with the 1mm roller and give your scalp a break if it starts feeling irritated. A lot of people do notice shedding in the first month or two, so don’t panic if that kicks in — it can actually be a sign that it’s working.

And yeah, down the line if you feel like you’re not getting enough results, you could look into things like Regenera Activa. It’s not a magic fix, but some guys have seen solid improvement from it since it uses your own stem cells to help stimulate regrowth. Not urgent now, but something to consider later.

You’re starting early and doing things the right way — just keep at it and don’t stress too much if results take a while. Consistency really is everything with this stuff.
