17 Years Old, Does It Look Like I'm Balding/thinning, Primarily Near My Hairline?

Here's are a couple of things that you should probably know.
- I'm currently on minocycline to treat my acne, along with vitamin A supplements.
- I've had a bad habit of picking at dry scalp areas, primarily near my crown and upwards a little. I'm trying to stop doing this.
- I've lost around 40 lbs from around the start of summer.
- I'm using coconut oil to try and treat my dry scalp daily.

My anxiety has been killing me over this for the past couple of days, I just can't fathom the idea of me starting to go bald at this age. It all started with me noticing that my hairline looked odd to me after I got my haircut this weekend. Could I possibly just be maturing, or maybe those are just baby hairs? I have no clue.

Overall, still looks pretty decent. No need to stress too much yet. All is fine. I do see some possible miniaturization in the front. But nothing too severe. Does recession and/or full on baldness run in your family tree?

Dads side has had some balding/recession. Moms side has all had great hair, though.

If it runs in the family at all, you likely carry the genes as well. Men produce more testosterone than woman. Most men have enzymes that convert testosterone into DHT. DHT kills hair follicles. That’s why woman don’t recede or bald. They don’t produce enough testosterone for this to occur. A very small handful of men have a genetic mutation that makes it impossible for them to produce the enzymes that cause testosterone conversion into DHT. That’s why it’s rare for men to retain their juvenile hairlines.

You might be too young. But, if at all possible, go see your doctor or a dermatologist and inquire about getting on Finasteride. It blocks the conversion I mentioned above and, in some cases, reverses DHT induced hair loss.

I was literally in the same position a few months ago where my hair was receding and thinning a bit in the front and I grew concerned, as I’m pretty young and everyone in my family had a pretty full of head hair. I hopped on Finasteride and I’m 3 months into it. My hair has stopped thinning and I’m actually on my way to getting my juvenile hairline back.
