18 year old with pictures, how is my hair doing?

I've noticed lots of hair shedding when I pull my hands through it and it feels really thin. I stopped accutane a few months ago. I'm worried that if I start losing hair at this early age it's more likely that I'll go completely bald eventually. I do have a male pattern baldness in my family, especially on my fathers side, but noone is completely bald (norwood 4?) and my father had a full head of hair until his late 30s. So, how do you think my hair is doing judging by these pics? Any feedback is appreciated!

Hey Ink. Looks like a NW2. Check out the treatments available. It is a risk to start finasteride so young. I did and it looks like I have maintained my hairline somewhat. But I am not sure how much of it is the finasteride. Look around the site.

Do you think I should visit a dermatologist? And if the hairloss is from accutane is it really permanent?

So to be clear... I'm destined to be bald one day since I started receding this early?

I dont know man it depends, how was your hair before? If you have the same hairline density throughout your teens then its safe to say its not male pattern baldness

Well, I'm shedding a lot... Pulled my hands through my hair for 5 minutes at the sink to see if hairs would eventualy stop falling out, I counted approximately 100 hairs before stopping, I don't know what to make of all this really...

Shedding does not mean you are going to end bald, i remember friend of mine 4 years ago who was styling is hair(he has curly hair) and i saw at that time he was shedding a lot, even he admitted so. Fast forward to this day, he is 23 and still has nw1. So in essence, shedding does not mean **** but you never know with male pattern baldness

Ok, the shedding is starting to really scare me now, it's been going on for 5 days. With each pull through my hair with my hand at least 5-6 hairs fall... How long will this go on?

Skin conditions

A substantially blemished face, back and limbs could point to cystic acne. The most severe form of the condition, cystic acne arises from the same hormonal imbalances that cause hair loss, and is associated with DHT production.[SUP][24][/SUP] Seborrheic dermatitis, a condition in which an excessive amount of sebum is produced and builds up on the scalp (looking like an adult cradle cap) is also a symptom of hormonal imbalances, as is an excessively oily or dry scalp. Both can cause hair thinning.
[edit]

My back still have some cysts even after accutane, I guess it's male pattern baldness and finsteride it is then. If anyone wanna help finding cheap pills I'd really appreciate a PM, thanks!

Actually, would starting out with dutasteride from the get go be a bad decision? Considering that my DHT levels probably are sky high (cystic acne, all the body hair I'm developing)... I'm not sure my understanding of DHT's effect is correct so would like to hear someone elses thoughts...

You should start finasteride, your hair is not bad. finasteride will maintain your hair or regrow it, if you keep losing ground then i suggest to switching to dutasteride

Turns out accutane can reduce DHT as well. Makes sense that the emotions I'm starting to feel now is actually DHT spreading in my body again after quitting accutane, haha. It's like this warmth pumping through my blood, extremely clear mind, energy. Like how I was before accutane, didn't realize anything changed to be honest until looking back on it. It feels great, still I was pretty content without this feeling. Anyways I'm probably getting my hormone levels checked before I do anything.

So after some research I believe accutane inhibits the 5AR1 enzyme and finasteride the 5AR2 enzyme. The 5AR1 enzyme seems to be more connected to the brain, neurotransmitters and all that, while the 5AR2 has more to do with the prostate, and hair? Please fill me in someone...

It is receding no doubt, but it's in the early stages. Get on finasteride and maybe even Min and u'll probably keep it for years to come

With that tempular recession coupled with such intense shed, chances are your balding would continue to progress. Normal hair shed is around 20-30. Some have higher hair turnover rates, so it could be that, but it could also be that you are going to thin diffusely and start losing your density. It's exactly the same that happened to me. You currently still have really good density though. Still looks really good.

The shedding has decreased over the last few days, still steadily going on though. And my scalp is itching... I have a doctors appointment in 3 days, will try to get finasteride prescribed. finasteride and ketokonazol shampoo enough as treatment at this point you think?

Cancel the appt ink. Dont get the med. Im against all treaments for male pattern baldness. Why are you so concerned with Your hair shedding. It's foolish to combat it. Dont go in. I quit fina before i finished 1st presc, now i am worried about long term effects. Save your self the additionl worry ink. Ketokonazol Shampoo is a waste of money. it doesnt work. it just gives you a temporary feeling of satisfaction that you are doing something about your hairloss. check out Suave 2 in 1 ph balanced shampoo i beleive 40oz for $3.69, awesome shampoo.

Well the appointment was pointless. The doctor didn't recognize baldness as a problem (he was bald) and didn't believe it was treatable either way. Hadn't even heard of propecia, after making him look it up he reluctantly admitted there could be something to it but still wouldn't prescribe anything to me, eventually he redirected me to a dermatologist...

Anything I should tell the derm to actually do something? Could I ask them to check my hair to see if I'm balding in any way?
