Age 19 I experienced a horrible shed, this is what made me notice my thinning. Lost a lot in the temples in the end.

19-20, continued losing throught the temples and thinning in the front.

21, temples are continuing back, front has thickened up considerably since the age 20 attack, but now everything behind it is following suit and thinning up. Diffuse thinning throughout the top.

So a 2 1/2 year span.

Is it possible for someone to go from norwood 1.5 to 3-4 within 1 year ?

I guess it's possible, but my understanding for that would probably be that:

That person has male pattern baldness coupled with another condition, such as thyroid or stress, and/or medications...

Yeah I agree with Aplunk1. I don't think in the normal person male pattern baldness will progress to that degree that quickly. Both of my uncles on my mother's side started losing their hair about 25 years and they are now close to 50 and haven't progressed too far. You can tell they are balding though.

Keeping in mind, I've spoken to them both about it and asked... Neither of them have used anything to slow or stop their hairloss. They just shave it.

This brings up an interesting point.. Does finasteride really make a difference long term if you can only maintain for a few years? Especially with the massive sheds that take place?

It's never been studied long-term, so it's difficult to say.

I don't know... Given the natural model of the drug, I would think that there would be no long-lasting benefits to long-term use of the drug. Are you asking, for instance, if you were to use it for, say, 20 years then quit? Long-term benefits? Probably not...

I'm not sure, though. That's just my two cents.
