It's impossible to know for sure. It could stop there or you could be bald by 25 to 30. What I will tell you is that my hair was similar to yours when I was your age. I still have hair at 27 but I'm Norwood 3 now. Do you see any thin spots in the corners of your hairlin? If you can see any thinning at all, thats a good sign it'll continue.
Unfortunatly yes, the corners are kind of thin. My crown is fine at this point, just a little bald spot where my cowlick is (which has always been there).
I really appreciate honest answers so thanks. Being told I'm crazy and that my hair is great really fucks with my mind. I want to hear it so badly and I want it to be true but I know in my heart that it isnt.
Did you start to preserve your hair? When did you start and how bad was it at the time?
I know what you mean about being called crazy. My whole family told me this and it really pissed me off. I KNEW I was losing hair and eventually it became evident to everyone else. At the end of the day, unless you are one of these people with severe BDD, you know yourself better than anyone else, and you notice, or should notice, changes in your body and appearance, such as hair loss, before anyone else. When I was your age I had a similar hairline and I was hoping that it would stay that way, but it didn't.
To me, these were the things that made me think I would lose more hair and I think they are good indicators for anyone:
1. As I mentioned before, any thinning, even mild, of the hair in the corners behind your hairline or anywhere else on your head for that matter.
2. Hairs falling out easily; when I was in highschool, if I rubbed my head a few times in class I would see hairs all over my notebook. 3. My mother's father was bald, I didn't know this at the time because I never met him. I find that this is perhaps the most important indicator. My father has all his hair but obviously that didn't help me much. I do have a friend who inherited hair loss from his father but in my experience this is rare. 4. The age at which hair loss started. The earlier the worse. If you were 34 and had the hair you currently have, I'd say you'll hairloss would stop or only get nominally worse. However at 19 with your hair loss even though it's minimal, it is a sign it might continue. For me it started at about 16 or 17, it was hardly noticeable.
Everyone is different and as I said you never know for sure. You still have a very good head of hair but I do see some mild recession which is not good at your age. If you have any of the characteristics I listed above, there is a chance it'll get worse.
As for treating it, sometimes I wish I got on propecia earlier. I started taking it around 25 and I was already well on my way to Norwood 3. I think if I had started earlier, I might've been able to stay at Norwood 1 or 2. On the other hand, I'm glad I didn't mess with my hormones while I will still young and potentially developing. If I were you I'd wait a little while longer and watch my hair very closely. If it gets worse you can hop on propecia. If your scared of propecia, rogaine tooke me from Norwood 2 back to Norwood 1 when I was 19, and I stayed there for a couple years. The results weren't permanent but I'm very grateful I was able to have a perfect hair line throughout college.
