I don't want to use finasteride. It has too much side effects. And messing with hormone levels is never a good idea unless you absolutely need to.

EDIT : the fact that it's pretty aggressive for my age suggests there's an underlying condition that causes my baldness and that could potentially be treated, no?

The choice is yours man about finasteride, but if I were you I would give it a shot. It's easy to maintain/thicken what you have then try to regrow.

And no, your hair loss is following a typical male pattern baldness pattern. You just have really aggressive genes. Usually if it's something else it's more "diffuse thinning"-ish.

no, lol. It would be nice to think so but thats the denial kicking in, first people will deny their hair loss even exists, then when they succumb to the realization it does they will try and deny it's male pattern baldness. You have male pattern baldness. You will have male pattern baldness for the rest of your life and currently the only easy way of preventing it is by using Finasteride, a drug proven safe time and time again and quite frankly, the only people on here who would deter someone taking it are either those who can't take it themselves due to side effects or those who, like you seem to be, got suckered in to the scare stories and now feel they need to stick to their guns even if only to fool themselves that the drug isn't safe.

What if the side effects are permanent? That scares me

I don't know what I can say to you that likely hasn't already been said. On this forum and on every hair related forum from here to Bodybuilding.com, and I'm not going to even try and make the argument because as soon as one person is convinced 3 more popup all with the same questions and worries about Finasteride. At the end of the day it's you're hair that looks like utter **** so it's your job and your decision to hear both arguments for and against and then decide to do whatever you think is best personally. All I will say is the risk for permanent sides solely from Finasteride that last forever is IMO non existant. And most people educated about DHT blockers would say the same.

In how much time do you think I'm going to be bald?

Do you think I'll eventually be able to grow a beard?

Well for 19 your loss is very aggressive so I would say you'll probably be visibly bald (NW4+) by 21 at the latest.

You have Male Pattern Baldness and that I am 99% sure of. You're almost a Norwood 3 and balding in the classic male pattern baldness pattern. Indeed for your age it's aggressive, but some people lose it quickly man. You will be bald within a couple of years probably.

Your family is not always an indication. Take my family for instance. Dad is a solid norwood 1 and has a bad *** beard. I started thinning at age of 16 and can't grow **** at 21. Also I have relatives that towers me.

I'm on Dutasteride, and I started Finasteride when I was 18 and my dick is still working, don't worry so much my dermatogist said that in his 30 years of practice not one of his patients had side effects from finasteride. Don't be a pussy.

Get on Finasteride, Minoxidil and try ketoconazole shampoos. Give it 1-2 years see how you respond and review your options.

30 years old. NW2.5 (would be NW4-5 now without finasteride/minoxidil), crappy, patchy, low density beard growth.

How can you know your libido hasn't decreased because of finasteride? There's no way to measure this precisely.

By that logic how can you know it hasn't increased? And FTR you can roughly measure it, if you're trying to do it precisely then A) You're an idiot because regardless of finasteride people's libidos go up and down depending on a number of factors and B) A drop in Libido than would need to be measured "precisely" is so insignificant that losing a hair over that isn't worth it, let alone a head of hair.

I know finasteride seems like some big nasty evil drug to you but if you don't get past all these stupid issues you THINK it will cause then simply don't take it and go bald. See if anyone here gives a crap.

Do you think there's a chance my hair loss will stabilize?

No. You're already NW3 heading for NW4 at 19. You'll probably be slick bald by your mid 20s unless you respond well to finasteride.

Nobody in my family has begun balding before 40 (or even 45). Do you think there's a possibility I was adopted? Should I make a DNA test?

EDIT : I disagree, I'm not NW3, I'm at most NW2.

Family history really doesn't mean that much. It can skip generations. You can clearly see you have aggressive, patterned hairloss. And you're definitely over NW2. Significant temple recession, miniaturisation on the temples and forelock and the whole frontal/mid area is thin.
