1mg Dutasteride. Is it safe?

I won't go into much detail into my past history with antiandrogens (you can read my previous threads for that). Basically 0.5mg Dutas (Dr. Reddy's) daily is not really doing the job. I was thinking of taking 0.5mg twice daily to see if it has any effect. I've read that while doing research they've administered patients with upto 2.5mg Dutasteride and they didn't really have a lot more sides than people on 0.5mg. I don't really have any sides on Dutasteride right now either so I'm thinking I can maybe increase the dose and see how it goes. The main thing I'm concerned about is the long term affect of Dutasteride on the liver.

I've seen a thread where a guy buys online dutasteride and after a few months his DHT levels skyrocketed! indicating it was probably fake. The best practice is to buy meds from your local pharmacy; get Avodart and give that a shot. I don't see any side effects pertaining to liver (http://www.drugs.com/sfx/avodart-side-effects.html)
Also I would advise you to stick with the approved dosage (.5mg daily) for safety reasons.

If I remember right, Roy is buying it from a local pharmacy. Lots of rumours that online stuff is fake but many have had their blood tested or had results and only been on that one medication. I tend to use a mix of online and local pharmacy.

Roy: 2.5 mg was used daily in the trials but it will be quite expensive and increased risk of sides. Consult a dr if possible and make a personal decision on what feels right.

Wolfpack, you obviously know about my situation. Like I said I switched to 5mg Finpecia but I go it from the same pharmacy. My hair actually began falling out faster. Anyways I was on it for around 2 months now and I'm getting my DHT test results tomorrow. Hopefully it shows a low DHT level. I seriously have no idea what to do. Not even sure if all the meds I'm taking are fake or my body is just too resistant.

For the others I'd say that I did a DHT test while I was on this same Dutas medication and my DHT levels were absolutely normal whereas we all know Dutasteride is supposed to lower DHT by 90%.

You have very aggressive hair loss genes I think. Unable to gain stabilisation with medication. I think switching from dutasteride to finasteride can trigger a shed even though both have reduced DHT to castrated levels. Not that I believe there is such a thing as dutasteride dependent gains but in your case your hair needs all the help it can get.

Have you tried RU? A different mechanism and plan of action may be worth a final shot. Stay on finasteride/dutasteride though too.

Otherwise just get a transplant of some sort when you make some money.

Sorry to hear you're having a hard time. finasteride might be maintaining for me but I don't know since I have such a slow pattern anyway. It is regrowing very slowly, almost like painful slow.

RoyD,

I have extremely aggressive and sensitive male pattern baldness genes and needed to hop on a regimen of Dutasteride and RU58841 to get my hair loss under control. If your DHT levels have been suppressed by Dutasteride and yet miniaturization is still progressing, it's definitely being caused by the small amounts of DHT left that the medication isn't inhibiting. That's when the use of RU58841 will be needed if that's the case, there will be no use to up the dosage of Dutasteride to 1 mg daily since that will only make a very minuscule difference at suppressing DHT.

I take 0.5 mg of Dutasteride daily and use a 10% solution of RU58841 once daily. I also use 5% topical Minoxidil twice daily and I use a 1% Ketoconazole shampoo once daily. That's my current regimen, you'll sometimes need to be aggressive to tackle an aggressive problem.

1 year on 0.5 mg dutasteride every day. I have hair re-growth, new hairs, thickening of existing hair, no shed. Notable difference in overall hair coverage, as I was a diffused thinner, mentioned by my family members. Temples slowly recovering.
