1mg Too Much?

"...people also skip days periodically based on the fact that finasteride suppresses DHT for up to several days and also on the old pharmacological rationale that it may help preclude any possible tendencies toward tolerance, which sometimes happens with continuous long-term use of medications." This is info I found within the FAQ section of Hairloss Talk. Recently, I had a doctor prescribe Propecia for me at 1mg per 72 hours for the same reason as above. Just wondering, though... Anyone else been doing this and seeing improvement?

I think it's ok to at least miss a day every now and then, rather than taking on every 72 hours.

I received my Fincar yesterday and am planning on taking 1/4 tablet (1.25 mg Finasteride) either three times (MWF) or twice (MF) a week. This is based on the chart TynanW posted earlier in this thread. Hopefully any side effects will be reduced because of the smaller doses. My situation is different from that of most of you folks. I am older (mid 40s) and would be happy to hold on to what I have - though gaining back some hair at the vertex would be great.

After a 5 year finasteride break due to sides, I restarted at a lower dose (1 mg eod).

By week 6, I noticed the return of the infamous burning nipple - so now I'm on 1 mg every third day (which is approx the same as .333333 mg per day - still slightly above the .2 minimal dose).

I'll know by this winter (Thanksgiving '05 will be the 8 month mark) if it's doing the trick or not.

After Much Consideration...

...and a TONS of research on Propecia - I'm going to work with 1mg every two days. This will seriously keep DHT out of the "follicle works" and ALSO continuously keep side effects to a minimum. But I would STILL love to continue to hear from those rare few who are doing the same as I or are doing the 72 hour and what they are finding for themselves. Hopefully not bigger breasts with more hair - Unless... You... are.. into...that... LOL THANKS Tyn for your cool chart and discussion! BUT it's NOT the level of DHT in your plasma that you should be concerned with so much so as the amount being continuously being blocked by the finasteride that is attached to your hair follicle/bulb whatever its called - at least that's what the Doctor told me. Remember you are using this drug to be used at the source - hair and not the prostate. How about a chart on that? Now THAT would be REALLY cool! Thanks and take care gang!
