2 days on finasteride, major sides already. Should I quit?

Hi guys,

Just started on the Big Three after 14 years of very gradual hairloss (now NW4 and a bit, fear it may be game over if I wait any longer).

So I know sides can go away with time, but seeing as I'm getting it hardcore after only 2 days (major groin ache, c*m less than half, watching porno might as well be watching political debate, etc.), perhaps I should quit finasteride altogether, as if it's that bad now surely mr pecker will be affected down the road. And mrs pecker would not allow that to happen..

Has anyone found bad sides go away totally over time or when moving to a lower dosage (eg. my present 1.25, maybe I started too high and should go down to 0.5)? The fact I am reacting heavily to it does that mean a lower dose will prob. be just as effective anyway? Or would you suggest a milder non-systemic DHT-reducing alternative (topical spironolactone/proxiphen..?)?

Advice please, as I'm starting to think I'm mad for fcking around with my hormones for cosmetic reasons..

Thanks
Chris :)

i just started around a week ago too, not facing any sides as such yet. yes some people have found even micro dosages to be effective. maybe 1.25 is too much for you. and yes, according to my poll (side effects of finasteride) on this forum, most of the people lost the sides after 1 month or two. very few had em after and 1 or 2 even had permanent sides.

how about you switch to 0.5 and see how that works for you? you'll have to give it a few days i suppose.

best of luck

I would wait it out one or two weeks - see if it balances itself out. If you quit now you'll never know....

Tks for the replies.

More than ever I'm convinced this is the real deal for me. This morning I had a load of small hairs come off when drying my hair. This kind of shedding hasn't happened to me in years. And after only a few days!

I think I'll lower the dose, though god knows how I cut a 5mg Proscar into tenths. Think I better get hold of 1mg Propecia quickly. For the time being I think I'll try 1.25mg every other day.

Since it happened so quickly, why don't you do a BLINDED test on yourself, to prove that it wasn't just a placebo-effect?

I had side effects for the first month but everything has been fine since then. You have to stick with it for a bit.

Well the groin ache spread down the inside of my legs and so I pussied out of finasteride. Will try again in a couple of months on a lower dosage when life has returned back to normal. After a couple of days off it the ache has already pretty much subsided, so no permanent damage which is what I was getting paranoid about. The mild shed continues, though I think that is prob. the minoxidil, which I've been doing for coming on a month now.

In the meantime I'm going the topical route, ordered some of Dr Lee's 5% spironolactone and some tricomin.

If and when you decide to go back, try the every other day route. Like 1/4 or 1/5 of a proscar tab - but every other day. If you still experience the sides - you can even drop down to every third day. Good luck!

Like other people have said lower your dose. You might want to source some propecia tablets and stick with them for the first few months as they are easier to split into lower doses. You could 1/4 propecia tablets and stick with that for a bit. On the other hand peoples bodies take time to adjust so it could be just the initial shed but, if I were you I'd just lower my dose and gradually increase it over the next few months. 1.25mg of finasteride can be to much for some people to start off with.

forgive me if I should have read this up somewhere (newbie) but is taking it every other day as effective as taking it every day? probably not quite as much I'd imagine, but it'd still work? sortof!? i'd imagine this is another debateable question!
