BACKGROUND STORY (jump to "Get to the point..." if you cant be bothered with the background story/genetics)
Hey, I started receding when I was 18, I'm 20 now and while it doesn't bother me most the time, it does bother me when I compare my hairline to people the same age as me, and when the wind sweeps my mid-length hair revealing temple recession. Also my aunt said I should shave all my hair off if it recedes any further :sobbing: I was motivated to do something about it when I was in the lift yesterday (it has a mirror) after being outside in the wind, and the light above was shining on my scalp and it was shocking how much it appeared I have receded , and further hair thinning, and now it seems it's all I can think about. :/

I am an identical twin and he is the same (if not worse) so it's deffinitely going to be a genetic thing. I also notice he has some hairloss at the crown, which I may too have, but I dont have eyes in the back of my head so I don't know. My dad is 57 and has a full head of thick healthy hair, but his brother went bald by the time he was 30. I don't believe I'm going to be heading in that direction any time soon but I'd like to stop it in it's tracks now as I've heard "the earlier the better".

Get to the point...
So.. I'm 20, having moderate temple recession and thinning, with a widows peak. Likely to be genetic.

I have done some research and realise that DHT's, Hair growth stimulants, androgen blockers are the first-line treatments and how they work and plan on using propecia & nizoral and possibly minoxidil at the same time, but one thing I will NEVER trust, are companies out there trying to make profit (i.e. laser comb..), so I'd like some advice from real people please! :)

I'm also a student so money is very tight so maybe some cheaper alternatives would be useful aswell so long as theyre effective. I'm trying to achieve clear skin at the moment aswell which is also costing a bomb. :/

Personal goals: To prevent any further hair loss, and to thicken hair around the temples, and if possible to stimulate more growth. I don't want my youth to be over yet! :(

P.S. I'm 6'4", could my height have anything to do with not enough blood reaching my scalp? And I'm in the UK so lots of brand names you have in the US won't be available here, so using the names of active ingredients would be appreciated :)

Thanks!

DHT is the cause of Male Pattern Baldness, you are correct. To combat that you would take Propecia/Finasteride. I would not expect a great deal of temple regrowth, but the crown should fill in more. Get some minoxidil (Regain, in the UK) to try and help with the re-growth. Some people get great results from that.

No, how tall you are has nothing to do with blood reaching your scalp, so don't worry about that.

If you're on a budget, then go with generic Propecia Check out 4rx.com. They actually have a price match guarantee, so I'd even go through them if you found somewhere else for cheaper.

http://www.4rx.com/online-pharmacy/cate ... pecia.html

I've been taking Finasteride from them for the last 3 years. My hair loss went from 200 hairs a day to about 25, so I know it wasn't just a sugar pill or something like that. They have online support for questions, and they told me this: "We have more than one supplier for the same medication and we ship out according to the availability of the stock. We carry generic Propecia manufactured by GenPharma, Sunrise, Cipla and Intas Lab Pvt."

If you're worried about budget, then I would suggest going for 90 1mg caps first. If you don't have a problem with sides then make your next order the 5mg caps and you can quarter them (1.25mg) to save some money.

2 money saving tips if you go there...
1: Let's say you want 90 caps. Add the 30 caps to your cart instead. It will take you to a checkout page, but it will also give you a chance to upgrade your order to 90 pills for $7 cheaper. Same goes for if you want to get 360, add 180 to your cart first

2: Use the promo code Q52EM37T during checkout for another 10% off. That's my promo code that I got for being a return customer, so feel free to use it :)

Here's my story, so you know that I'm trying to sell you on the product...not the website :)

Thanks for response & promo code :)
Did you get any side effects from propecia? I'm worried about the permanent sexual side effects that seem to be well documented

Do I? No. Does that guarantee that you won't either? No. Everyone is different, and everyone responds to everything differently. Are you likely to get some of the horrible sides? No. Read this post that I made

I forgot to ask, do you need a prescription for finasteride on that website? I've just been to my GP and they're not allowed to prescribe finastride and said I'd have to pay to go privately and see a specialist which I certainly can't afford.

Also, does that website work for the UK (as i see it's in dollars) and do they do free shipping?

No, you don't need a script.

They do free shipping if you buy a decent amount, but not for small orders.

I believe that they ship to the UK. They'll convert the currency to whatever yours is when they charge you. Go through the checkout steps and I believe that's where you find the currency converter.

Why is my McAfee SiteAdvisor warning popping up whenever I click on that link? Is that a scam site?

Here, view McAfee's report on that site:
http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/www.4rx.com

Can someone have that site checked to make sure they're not selling fake Propecia?

I'm not sure if I should risk it from that site, or spend an extra £19 (for a year) on tablets that you have to cut into 5 from a trusted site.. hm.

Many people here, order their Finasteride from INHOUSEPHARMACY.
You can order FINCAR (generic proscar) 30 tablets (4mth supply) for £15 if you live in UK. They despatch from South Pacific and deliver within 7-14days. Keep the order below £18 to avoid VAT and Customs seizing your delivery.
Does sound a little too good to be true, but for £15 i'm not risking much so i'll give it a try, thanks :)

I'm an IT Professional (I happen to be a network admin in a high government position), and I say that McAfee if full of crap. They are horrible, both in protection and detection against viruses. Bad enough that we moved away from them 3 years ago and haven't looked back.

Like I said in my original post, I've been getting finasteride from them the last 3 years, and it's obviously worked for me

I've had 0 problems and they've always been very helpful when I had questions.

It's true, generic finasteride is so cheap, they still make a packet out of it.

Decided I'm going to stick with a trusted site, I've seen some bad reviews for inhousepharmacy, not really willing to risk it. I'd rather pay 20p extra per day and be sure it's legit. Never know when you may just get a dodgy batch.

Like I said, never had a problem with 4rx. They're pretty legit.

Also, it might have been profitable to fake Propecia back before there was generic finasteride, but not so much anymore. There's not much reason to fake something that has such a (relatively) small profit margin. It probably costs near as much to fake it as it does to make it :)

True, but the problem is, I wont know if it's fake because I'll be using minoxidil aswell

I would suggest seeing a real doctor and getting a prescription and buying it at an actual pharmacy if that is possible. I would also take some pictures before you start, and get blood work done on all the important hormone levels so if things go bad you have a record of where you started at.

The only way to see a real doctor in person would be to go privately as it's not covered on the NHS, and as a student with no job I am short on money as it is, so it's not something I'm willing to do but I think I may still be able to get a blood test, especially if I tell my doctor I'm on finasteride (will they mind if i tell them im taking it? they keep it confidential with illegal drugs at least...)

I am from the uk, getting 5mg finasteride on a private prescription since 2004.

What I did was to just go to my doctor and talk about hairloss; maybe I was lucky but my doctor was happy to put me on a private prescription for finasteride.

Since then I've even changed doctor and they've been fine with it - I even had a pharmacist chat with me about how much cheaper it is to get the 5mg pills and split them compared to 1mg 'propecia'.

Considering that you can get general 5mg finasteride tablets in UK pharmarcies now, I think it costs about £15 for 28, which will last you near enough to 4 months, so that's not too bad :)

As for minoxodil, I would recommend getting 5% regaine/rogaine foam from some online store. There's a lot of options but it seems to end up about £12 a bottle, make sure to shop around a bit.

I noticed recession at the same age as you, I'm 30 in a few months and barely an NW3. The treatments probably won't totally stop your hairloss, but they'll likely slow it down a lot. Good luck!

The doctor I saw really seems to know nothing? :S She said I have to see a specialist and that finasteride can't be prescribed in general practice :O
But that aside, she said there's nothing I can do about hair loss! :thumbdown2:
