Ok this is my situation...I'm 20 and experiencing thinning at the temples and my overall hairline is receding. It has just become noticeable within the past year or so. So far the only thing I use is nizoral 2-3 times a week. Other than my hairline, the rest of my hair seems to be ok, or at least there isn't any noticeable loss or thinning going on. So I guess my question is what is the best way to fight a receding hairline? Should I see a dermatologist and/or try to get on finasteride and minoxidil? Also I'm African-American and keep my hair cut very close. I get a hair cut about once a month. If I were to start the big 3...would I have to stop cutting my hair to see results?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi!

The best thing for your hair (including the hairline) is the big 3. Stay on it for at least 1 year before evaluating it. It does not matter if you cut your hair or not. If the treatments are going to work they will, it just takes time. I hope this helps as I am sure alot of the others will comment as well. Good luck to you and welcome.

Ya laser comb if you want to watch your hair fall out. I havent seen 1 significant study on that piece of junk. The guy on balding blog was also skeptical. A laser doesnt address DHT which is the main culprit as of today so anything that significantly effects that is the only choice.

you sound like you were in my situation. when i was 20 i noticed the same thing. by the time i was 25 my temples were receded close to halfway back my head. the top of my head was thinning out a lot also. i am now 27 and have been on nizoral and rogaine foam for about 6 months and my hair is about as thick as it was when i was 22 or so. i can almost promise you your hairloss will not get better so i would recommend starting to take care of it now. it may cost you money, but why wait around for something you know is going to get worse? i wish i would have known about these treatments when mine just started but if you treat it now you should maintain what you have or maybe (since it is early) be able to recover all that you had. hopefully if you treat it now you can save yourself stress until a "cure" comes out.

1.Keep going with nizoral
2.Propecia (essential if you dont want to lose any more)
3.Minodixil (regrows hair and makes the existing hair thicker.)
4.If you want to go the hard way add a growth-stimulant like copper peptides(Revivogen for example) or spironolactone cream to block even more DHT.

I trust that if you follow it relegiously you have great chances of being pleasantly surprised by the results.
